As for words borrowed from German:

  1. ABS is not borrowed from German. If anything, the intials are borrowed back from English to German, and the word constructed to match the initials.
  2. category:German loanwords is questionable, at best. I think it probably should be deleted. Certainly, any word which is spelled differently in English than the German word should be removed from the category.
  3. I'm not sure about german.about.com, but about.com, in general, is not a reliable source, consiting primarily of uncredited borrowings from Wikipedia and other Wikis.

OK, I'm withdrawing point 3. However, specific errors in your edits:

  1. ABS is not borrowed from German, as can be easily be seen from the fact that the initials derived from the German word would be different. "Anti-lock braking system" may be (but appears not to be) a translation of the German word.
  2. Machtpolitik is borrowed from German, but is not used in English. "Power politics" is a translation of the German, rather than being borrowed.

Thinking it over, most of the edits I reverted, although unsourced and clumsy in English, are probably accurate. However, I will not accept your errors in attribution unless you have citations. — Arthur Rubin | (talk) 13:36, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
