The Grand Orient de France is not the oldiest Masonic Body in France: the Grand Orient was only constituted in 1773. The first organised masonry in France was the Grande Loge Anglaise (1730) wich became the first Grande Loge de France in 1738 and counted 8 lodges. Suspended by Police order in 1769, they restarted in 1771, a year later they split into the GL dite de Clermont and a Grande Loge nationale de France (1772)which became in 1773 the Grand Orient de France under the duke de Chartres. In 1799 the Grande Loge de France and the Grand Orient were forced to join together until 1805. They split again into The Grand Orient and the Rite Ecossais (with a Supreme Council 1804)- the latter retoke in 1895 the name of Grande Loge de France and was rejoined in 1896 by the Grande loge Symbolique de France founded in 1880 under the name of Grande Loge Symbolique Ecossaise and renamed in 1890).
[edit] years page layout
I have made some year layout proposals which would affect a significant proportion of the year pages: an example of proposed style is 1850. It is detailed on my talk page. However pre 1800 the change is largely cosmetic.
If no-one flags where I have put the discussion on my talk page that they object in a month I will start making everything consistent. It may take some time... --(talk)BozMo 16:32, 11 May 2004 (UTC)
I was wondering if someone would be kind to at the very least put who succedded Catherine I as Tsar/Tsarnia of all the Russias?
