16th Punjab Regiment

The 16th Punjab Regiment was a regiment of the British Indian Army and then later of the Pakistan Army. It s lineage goes back to the 3rd Battalion of Coast Sepoys formed in 1759.

It was formed on March 1, 1922 as:
- 1st Battalion, formed by redesignation of 30th Punjabis
- 2nd Battalion, formed by redesignation of 31st Punjabis
- 3rd Battalion, formed by redesignation of 33rd Punjabis
- 4thBattalion, formed by redesignation of 9th Bhopal Infantry
- 10th (Training) Battalion, formed by redesignation of 46th Punjabis
It became a unit in the Pakistani Army after the partition in August 1947 and renamed The Punjab Regiment when it was merged with the 1st Punjab Regiment, 14th Punjab Regiment, and 16th Punjab Regiment in April 1956.
