[edit] Number of games in a baseball season
I'm loath to remove something from such a threadbare page, but this item added by Erodelius needs more:
- In the game of baseball, there are 162 games in a season not counting playoff games.
Does that mean there are 162 games by all teams or just the perspective of one team? And is that team a Major League team, minor league, Little League? And why would the playoffs not count? Anton Mravcek 17:01, 29 September 2006 (UTC)
- I've now removed it. If it is to be added back, a source should be provided, or at the very least, it should be worded better. — The Storm Surfer 08:10, 24 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Defending the inclusion of the MLB season
A recent removal of the MLB statistic by The Storm Surfer [1] said "MLB comment removed; see talk" in regards to why it was removed. But, this talk page says nothing about it except for the elementary quote from above, which is not what was just recently removed. That was removed a long time ago. The following is the statement that was just removed, and I intend to reinsert it unless someone an provide a better explanation for its removal:
- 162 is the number of games each team plays during a regular season in Major League Baseball.
It is pretty straightforward. It clearly does not refer to the minor leagues, little leagues, or anything other than the MLB. It links to "regular season" to intentionally exclude pre- and post-season games, but perhaps it should link to the non-disambiguated Major League Baseball season. Therefore, I made the change and added it back to the article. There is no reason to provide a source for this information; it's almost on the verge of common knowledge that MLB seasons are 162 games and have been for a really long time. —№tǒŖïøŭş4lĭfė ♫♪

- What Storm Surfer removed was rather vague. What you put in addressed all the concerns that Anton had with the original statement (see above). And no, it's not common knowledge that an MLB season has 162 games for each team. Our national pastime has declined in popularity. Maybe we could find it in the MLB rulebook something that says 162 or some easily calculable expression for 162. CompositeFan 19:35, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
