- Shane O'Neill defeats MacDonnells at Glenshesk.[1]
- Shane O'Neill marchs from Antrim through the mountains by Clogh to the neighbourhood of Ballycastle, where he routs the MacDonnells at the Battle of Glentasie and takes Sorley Boy MacDonnell prisoner.
- Sir Henry Sidney, becomes Lord Deputy.
- Butlers and Fitzgeralds fight a pitched battle against each other at the Battle of Affane in County Waterford.
