[edit] Does it really needs so much power?

Just a question: does this game really needs a 3.2GHZ cpu even if i have a Core 2 duo? This are my specs and i dont think i can run it :(

Intel Core 2 duo E6600 2.4GHZ 4GB of ram 500GB of HDD capacity NVIDIA GeForce 7900GS XT 256MB GDDR3 Cooler master Hyper L3 CPU cooler Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit

Do you guys think i should upgrade? i mean, im not rich, i can't buy the latest graphic cards like the 8800GTX, any recommendations? Overclocking? please... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 148.202.47.234 (talk) 14:49, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

You pass the specifications with flying colors. :) · AndonicO Talk 15:04, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
U sure? 'cause it says i'll need a 512MB graphic card :( i was thinking on upgrading to a couple of geforce 8600 GT 512mb on SLI mode, my motherboard can support SLI so i think it would be a good choice. Any coment about this graphic card and it's performance? Cause i googled it and it says it's a mid range graphic card but it's not the big thing :P

And one more thing, do i need SLI capable RAM to use the SLI mode? I have the Kingston KVR667D2N5/1G installed, but i don't know if it's SLI compatible. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 148.202.47.234 (talk) 15:20, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

SLI doesn't give you a performance gain that justifies the price. It's only good if you're planning to play on extreme resolutions (i.e. monitors over 24" big). It says you need a 512MB 6800 or better, and a 256MB 7900 is much better. The 8600 GT is actually a worse card than the one you have right now (it's around 7600 GT, performance-wise). Another example of the non-importance of video card memory is the 8800 GTS. The 320MB version gets only around 5 FPS less than the 640MB version, but it costs around $100 less (guess why Nvidea's cancelling the 320MB one? ;) ). · AndonicO Talk 17:30, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

Note: I moved this here because it's a bit off topic. Hope you don't mind.

Actually, instead of having SLI 8600 GTs with 512MBs each, you'd be better off just buying a single 8800 GTS 320MB: [1] The only upgrade I'd recommend (aside from a GTX, of course). It should be able to play Crysis on a similar level (high, maybe very high) as the 7900, but DX10 instead of DX9 (detail comparison). · AndonicO Talk 17:44, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
So, should i add a second 7900GS or switch to the 8800gts 320mb? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 148.202.47.43 (talk) 18:03, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
I would switch to the GTS 320, because adding another 7900 won't increase your performance by much (besides, some games have trouble with SLI: probably not Crysis, but still...). · AndonicO Talk 19:30, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
The thing is you don't need SLI, it's a waste of money in most instances. So either keep your current card (which is very good), or if you want DX10, buy an 8800 GTS 320MB (you'll have to decide quickly though: the 320MB version is going to be discontinued soon). · AndonicO Talk 09:11, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
I think crytek went to far, the game looks amazing but the alienated half the audience. I have a great PC that can play almost anything on full graphics but even on low the game choped up even in simple combat. Just becouse you can make a game look that good doesnt mean you should.75.69.70.83 —Preceding comment was added at 02:37, 30 October 2007 (UTC)

A bit late but actually the 8600GT is significantly better then the 7600GT performance wise in most games. When it comes to the 7900GS vs 8600GT it's variable. On shader intensive games the 8600GT usually wins. When you enable AA or 16x aniso or anything else which is taxing on the memory subsysytem the 7900GS usually wins (it has a 256 bit memory path). While the 8600GT should definitely not be considered as an upgrade to the 7900GS, the 7900GS is not necessarily the better choice if you are considering a card for a new system or an upgrade from something significantly worse. One thing that is correct from the above is that SLI is nearly always a bad idea. Nil Einne (talk) 11:52, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
