[edit] Single-purpose conflict of interest?
I have reverted all your edits promoting Kevin Warwick, since a single-purpose anonymous editor leads to a presumption of WP:Conflict of interest. Please explain if I've got it wrong. Dicklyon 16:32, 31 August 2007 (UTC)
Thank you for your scrutiny in this matter. Can understand the presumption - possibly has some substance - though not entirely - I (obviously) do know the person in question. I am clearly happy to accept deletions/revertions where no citation/reference is available (as you put it, where it is without reliable sources for verification) - however in quite a few cases a suitable verifiable source was given - particularly in my last edit, and some of the edits were merely improvements (as AdamBMorgan pointed out) on links and categories. Sorry I didn't respond before - wasn't sure how to.
- I recommend you work on becoming a constructive wikipedia editor, instead of a single-purpose Kevin Warwick editor. Then you'll get a better idea what's appropriate and how to go about it. Dicklyon 15:40, 2 September 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the advice - not sure I am into it in general though - we'll see. Took a key interest as an example and didn't do too well. Should I drop the present attempt or can anything be rescued? Still not sure about the Conflict of Interest when verification is possible - as you indicated yourself - thought some of my edits were OK by those rules.
- It's up to you. For the quotes, I'd like to know more about the source. Is it independent of the subject? Why is he being quoted? For the personal beliefs and other details, make sure you have a source about him. Dicklyon 15:54, 2 September 2007 (UTC)
The quotes all appeared in a couple of published books (of collections of quotes). I bought them on amazon - the author/editor of the book (not Prof. Warwick) is a well known Professor himself. As for why Prof. Warwick - he seems to fit with the other people in the book. It's what got me started really. Thanks for the follow up and further advice though - really appreciated.
- Read WP:V, WP:RS, and WP:COI carefully before proceeding. If you have doubt about whether what you're contributing is suitable, you can always offer it on the talk page, being up front about your relationship to the subject, and let other editors decide what to incorporate.
