- 1299 - Osman I founds the Ottoman Empire, initially one of ten Gazi Emirates emerging after the collapse of the Seljuk Sultanate of Rum.
- 1308 - Avignon Papacy established, which splits and weakens the Roman Catholic Church.
- 1325 - Founding of the Aztec city of Tenochtitlan when a tribe of Nahua settle on an island in Lake Texcoco.
- During the hajj of its ruler Mansa Musa, the Malian Empire conquers the Songhai city of Gao.
- 1336 - The Vijayanagara Empire is established in the Deccan; with the defeat of the Hoysala Empire by the Sultanate of Delhi it is the last major Hindu kingdom on the Indian subcontinent.
- 1339 - War declared between England and France, beginning of Hundred Years' War.
- 1348 - The Black Death begins to ravage Europe.
- King Edward III of England repudiates his kingdoms debts, leading to the collapse of the two largest Florentine banking houses.

- 1371 - French forces recapture Poitiers.
- 1380 - United under the Grand Duchy of Moscow, the Russians defeat the Tataro-Mongol Golden Horde at the Battle of Kulikovo. This is the beginning of the end of Mongol rule over the Rus.
- 1389 - Ottomans defeat the Serbs at the Battle of Kosovo; the death of Prince Lazar marks the end of an independent Serbian Empire.
- 1391 - First Ottoman siege of Constantinople.
- 1396-At the Battle of Nicopolis, the Ottomans decisively defeat the last crusade of the Middle Ages, an attempt by the Hungarians under Sigismund, Holy Roman Emperor, and a Crusader army from France and England to lift the siege of Constantinople.
