User talk:128.240.229.66

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

School IP address Attention:

This IP address, 128.240.229.66, is registered to University of Newcastle upon Tyne and may be shared by multiple users of an educational institution. If the institution uses proxy servers, this IP address may in fact represent many users at many physical computers.

For this reason a message intended for one person may be received by another. Similarly an innocent user may be blocked for another user's vandalism. If you are editing from this address and are frustrated by irrelevant messages, you can avoid them by creating an account for yourself. In some cases you may temporarily be unable to create an account due to efforts to fight vandalism; if so, please read our advice on this situation.

Caution should be used when blocking this IP or reverting its contributions without checking - if a block is needed, administrators should consider a soft block with the template {{schoolblock|optional comment}} as the block reason.

Note: In the event of persistent vandalism from this IP address, anonymous editing may be disabled for up to 1 year at a time. Abuse reports may also be forwarded to your school administration for investigation.
School staff who want to monitor vandalism from this IP address can subscribe to a web feed of this page in either RSS or Atom format.
Attention:

This IP address, 128.240.229.66, is registered to a proxy server. IP addresses registered to proxy servers are shared by multiple users. Messages left on this page may be received by other users of this IP address, making them irrelevant. Extreme caution should be used when warning, blocking, or banning this IP, or reverting its contributions. If you are an unregistered user operating from this address, note that this may not be the IP address of your machine.

128.240.229.66 is the IP address of a proxy server that communicates between your browser and the Wikimedia servers. Such proxies are shared among an infinite number of users compared to the number of persons using your particular machine, so refrain from blaming any new messages on them. If you are frustrated by irrelevant messages being sent to you, you can end this by creating an account.

Remember: Proxy users often change IP addresses with each page they load.
Messages left on this page will most likely NOT be received by the intended user.

Hi - I notice that you (or one of the people using this IP) added Thom Brooks's forthcoming Global Justice Reader to the bibliography in Global Justice (and a few other places). The bibliography, as I originally planned it, was supposed to be a shortlist of major contributions to the subject. A book which is only in the planning stage doesn't fit that rubric, so I've cut it for the moment, but I'm happy to be shown how I'm wrong if you'd like to discuss at Talk:Global justice. Incidentally, can I encourage you to sign up for an account? Cheers, Sam Clark 08:55, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

If this is a shared IP address, and you didn't make any unconstructive edits, consider creating an account for yourself so you can avoid further irrelevant warnings.

Please don't change the format of dates, as you did to The Catherine Tate Show. Most British people and many people internationally write dates in day-month-year order, e.g., 12 December 1904. Most Americans use month-day-year order, e.g., December 12, 1904. If the article is about an American topic, use month-day-year. If it is a British or European topic, use day-month-year. If neither, leave it as originally written. Many Americans or British people take offence if an article about their country, written in their local version of English, is changed around to a version they don't use. So please do not do that.

Dates are usually enclosed in two square brackets, as in [[12 December]] or [[December 12]]. This means that you can set your preferences (if you look around your screen you'll see the word preferences; click on it and follow the instructions) to ensure that you see all dates in the format you want, whether date-month-year, month-date-year or yyyy-mm-dd. The general rules on how Wikipedia articles are written can be seen in the Wikipedia:Manual of Style. Rules specific to dates and numbers can be seen in the Wikipedia:Manual of Style (dates and numbers).

If you have any questions about this, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Enjoy your time on the web's fastest growing encyclopædia (or encyclopedia, if you write it that way!). Thank you. TalkIslander 00:20, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
