[edit] Democrat(ic)
I don't think the term Democrat in reference to a member of the United States Democratic Party is disparaging. I'm not contesting your edits per se, but I think you may have the wrong idea; as far as I know, the two are interchangeable in a colloquial or informal sense. --Merovingian (T, C) 23:47, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, but it's really been over-thought. I mean, it's the party of Democrats, not the party of Democratics. If you pronounce it a certain way, any otherwise-innocuous descriptor can be given a negative connotation. What I was just saying was that considering it disparaging is your own opinion. The article you referenced is interesting but fully of the opinion that Democrat is a slur, not that it should be. --Merovingian (T, C) 00:00, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

- Yes, but I don't think most people refer to Democrats as such out of contempt or opposition. Although there are those pundits who do use the term to be negative, I would reference the same section you did to say that the use of "Democrat" is simply linguistic laziness for most people. --Merovingian (T, C) 00:33, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
