[edit] History

The end of 1945 saw the establishing of an air defense training center where aerial reconnaissance and intelligence skills were studied. At the beginning of 1947 the first radio-reconnaissance company was established made up of specialized personnel. In the middle of the same year, Air Defense Command Operations Center was transformed into the main Operations Center, with an alternate aerial reconnaissance/intelligence company being formed. This was the first unit of that kind in our army.

In mid 1950s superior tactical units were formed -VOJIN regiments, equipped with US-made greater range radars and redconnaissance radars, while in the priod 1962-1970, during the renewal of obsolete military equipment, East-made radars were acquired. In the 70s VOJIN regiments procured a larger number of modern radar/IT devices manufactured in the West: S-600 Marconni radar, AS-70 and AS-74 automatized systems.

In 1980s TPS-63 and TPS-70 radars eneterd force as they were the state-of-the-art radar systems at that time, with an obvious need for unifying all separate systems for aerial reconnaissance/intelligence and control into one joint System for Aerial Reconnaissance, Intelligence and Control. After the dissolution of Former Yugoslavia, on 12 October 1992, 126 VOJIN brigade was formed by merging units of three regiments for aerial reconnaissance, intelligence and control. During 78 days of the NATO campaign, this unit successfully performed its tasks.
