[edit] Newington College
In October, a facilitator was appointed to assist the College through issues that were generating significant concern amongst the teaching staff. The Council acknowledged that there were genuine problems that had to be worked through. In the course of almost eight weeks discussion, the facilitated process involved over 80 interviews, meetings with key stakeholders including representatives from Church, Old Boys Union, Parents and Friends, some parents and of course most Council members, Headmaster, managers and staff. There were two meetings with Council and two with the Stanmore Campus Common Room. The Council Executive met with representatives of the Common Room to identify issues of concern. The facilitator found that disaffection among teaching staff is largely focused around the way change has been managed, the level of communication about change and the review and evaluation which was built into change processes. These issues have been addressed by a widely representative working group established by Council and coordinated by the facilitator in the first three months of 2007. The working group is considering four terms of reference, namely: - i) Communication issues across the entire community - ii) Transparency in decision making - iii) Consultation processes involving issues and change management decisions - iv) Empathy i.e. broad Newington community engagement.
