[edit] Thumbnails on self-evident university logos

Can you point me to an example or two of logos that have been removed for lack of a thumbnail, as you've recently stated in the edit comments on Michigan-Ohio State rivalry? JohnInDC (talk) 02:05, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Thumbnails

Please stop making images thumbnails when they don't need to be. Thanks, michfan2123 (talk) 02:34, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

they do need to be that way or you will lose them. wiki rules ae that logos are not decoarative but to be informative to qualify as fair use.12.41.183.194 (talk) 18:07, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
A logo does not have to be a thumbnail in order to be informative. Why do you say that? Who said that it's Wikipedia policy to only use thumbnails for fair use images? нмŵוτнτ 21:46, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
I am saying that many images not in thumbnails have been deleted by the "logo" nazis in the college football rivalry section. Check out the rivalry games . . .many are missing logos. The stated reason for those deletions is the non-fair use policy. Look, I don't make the rules. I have doen a lot of work o nthsoe aritcle and I WANT the images. However, many have been delted and the whole section looks like crap because some articles have logos, others do not. The people who are adminostratrs and hwo have deleted images I have uploaded are the one with the power ,now me,. they interpret the rules their way. I ahppen to agree with you, however, I can't control what an adminditrator does. Maybe you have a different view, but many images in the college football rivalries have been deleted. BYU-Utah rivalry is the prime example. That guy wouldn't listen, tried to "own" that article and then got the images delted completely. So, it seems those with thumbnail boxes don't get deleted, those without thumbnail boxes get deleted by, in my view, overzealous Admins. Get it?12.41.183.194 (talk) 22:00, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
I'm an admin too, actually... They all mean well. What admin told you to remove logos from a rivalry article? As for checking out other rivalry article, the UNC-Duke rivalry, Army-Navy Game, Bedlam Series, Lone Star Showdown, Battle for the Iron Skillet, Bayou Bucket, and The Rivalry (Lehigh-Lafayette) all have some form of logo in the articles. Although those are mostly thumbnail, the difference is that the Michigan logo says "Michigan" on it and the Ohio State logo says "Ohio State" on it, making the caption redundant and unnecessary. Do you see? Also, "other articles do it this way" isn't usually a valid argument. нмŵוτнτ 23:11, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
No admin told me to remove, they REMOVED them, with, in my opinion, a poor explanation. However, most (all?) are in thumbboxes . . . I understand what redundacny is, sir, I also think logos in an article about schools is fine and a fair use, but from what I can see, those without a thumb got removed. Even some that showed the name of the school IN THE LOGO. Michigan and Ohio State are not the only ones with the name in the logo. Also, some of those you mention I put the logos BACK in, in sort of a defiance of betacommand--I just put Layette back in today, it had been deleted and it has the school name in it, just like Michigan and Ohio State. I don't see why Michigan and Ohio State will be the exceptions . . . further, your logic is also supect. Just because a logo has the name of the school in it does not mean it is not subject tot he same rules as other logos, now does it?12.41.183.194 (talk) 04:56, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
(a) I am a "miss" and not a "sir". It is nonconstructive to assume that every person alive is a male.
(b) Please provide diffs to the things to which you are referring.
(c) Whether or not the logos belong has nothing to do with the fact of them being (or not being) a thumbnail. If they belong, they belong. Period. Whether it says "Ohio State logo" under the Ohio State logo, it's still the Ohio State logo.
(d) WP:LOGO says that "logos are very useful to help confirm that an article is about the thing which has that logo". They are important in this article. There is no "rule" here saying that all logos must be used solely as thumbs. You can search the logo guideline if you wish. The individual opinion of one editor is not a "rule". нмŵוτнτ 19:09, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
