[edit] 10-string guitar

Thanks for your information about the Modern/Yepes 10-string guitar!

The page 10-string guitar is starting to get a bit biased towards the ideas of Yepes (i.e. his tuning and philosophy) rather than trying to stay on a "neutral point of view"->

This is especially the case when you delete external links like www.tenstringguitar.com and then say: "This is an entry on the Yepes 10-string guitar. Links to sites with misleading information should not be included." [1]

That's just wrong, since the entry is called "10-string guitar" (not "Yepes 10-string guitar"); but is does have a section on Yepes' idea of what tuning should be used etc.

However there are other people who also use 10-string guitars, and have different ideas about it: Different tunings, different techniques etc.! And there are certain websites...

Don't get me wrong: I'll be the first to say that I don't like www.tenstringguitar.com! Hihi. I think it is ridiculous - but my reasons are very different than yours. (By the way, you may even be listed as member on that very site)

My suggestion: perhaps it would be a good idea to start a new article Yepes 10-string guitar or Modern/Yepes 10-string guitar. It can then remain unspoiled by things like www.tenstringguitar.com, if you manage to justify that when being challenged by someone (not me!).

(The 10-string guitar has 10 strings. You cannot force a tuning, or a way on playing on anyone! ~~ (What happend when people in the past started worshipping Segovia, shutting out other ideas??)

But one may choose to actively follow certain paths on one's own free will, always knowing that other possibilities exist, and that one may change one' path...)

Please note the info about Wikipedia:Neutral_point_of_view

[edit] RE: 10-string guitar

This entry is in no way "a bit biased towards the ideas of Yepes". It simply gives the historical facts and scientific logic that have too often been misrepresented to fit the biased ideas of Yepes's detractors. To counter misinformation, it is necessary to emphasise the facts about Yepes' work and to exclude links to misleading websites that do contain, without question, biased information.

The facts are, 1) Yepes invented the instrument in question, 2) there is a standard tuning for it, and 3) it is the tuning that is of significance (its distinctive feature and its reason for being), not the number of strings. It is unfortunate that there is no distinctive name for this instrument (other than identifying its tuning by the name of its inventor) to distinguish it utterly from other guitars (even ones that look the same) that happen to have the same number of strings. If it had such a name, I would happily create another entry.

I would rather suggest, let those who play the Romantic ten-string guitar create an entry on the "Romantic 10-string guitar". I fully support the creation of this entry. Also, let those who have appropriated Yepes's instrument, effectively turning it into a completely different instrument (which is the case when changing the tuning of an instrument whose tuning is the primary reason for its existence) create their own, separate entries. Let there be, for example, a "Marlow Method 10-string Guitar" entry.

But I feel it would be quite ironic, quite a case of double-standards, if these individuals were to challenge this entry for being biased towards Yepes (who did, after all, invent the instrument) in light of certain websites that, very unethically, try to maintain a monopoly on the term "ten-string guitar", while providing misleading, biased information about it's tuning, the historical facts behind its invention, and the scientific logic behind its proper tuning.
