CANCEL THE ABOVE MESSAGE. My detailed explanation is on the article's talk page, but in short I realized that only the basic schedule information is taken from Cricinfo, not a direct copy-and-paste, and the article's intent goes beyond just the schedule. My sincere apologies. Realkyhick 16:59, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] U19 cricketers

Hi, please note that according to WP:BIO, schoolboy and under 19 cricketers are not sufficiently notable for inclusion. I have prod'd a large number of articles you have submitted for inclusion. Unless you make more significant assertions of WP:Notability then I will continue to delete articles related to under 19 cricketers.

Happy to discuss at my talk page. Garrie 00:33, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

Hi, as you may have seen, I have given Trevor Ward a clean-up for you. I hope this helps. One thing I have noticed, having read the above post, is that this may be a continuing issue. By giving the article the basic format as I have done, including the infobox helps to assert the fact that the player may not be just an under-19 player, but was actually a very good first-class county player as well. I imagine User:GarrieIrons will not have worked this out from the statistics present. Let me know if I can be of assistance. –MDCollins (talk) 01:24, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
I have been past MD's talk as well. Sorry to say but your reproduction of statistics from cricinfo.com doesn't lend much to the importance of these players. You should adjust your basic article layout to put the person's most significant achievement in the first sentence -
Andrew John Strauss MBE, (born 2 March 1977 in Johannesburg, South Africa) is an English cricketer who plays county cricket for Middlesex County Cricket Club and Test matches and One-day internationals for England.
I'm sure he also played at the Under 19's level - but he has done that much else that it doesn't matter. I know you are doing a heap of work at individual player articles - but if you don't collaborate, don't communicate, and don't change your style, then the articles will be taken to a group AfD and it will be very messy but probably many of them will be deleted.
When I said above that I'm happy to discuss this at my talk page then removing the prods with no edit summary, and without contacting the person who put the prods on the articles, isn't the way to get me around to keeping articles.Garrie 02:30, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

I have had a break over easter. I have had another look at what you have been up to. I went back to Trevor Ward and de-emphasised his under 19's achievements - if that is his most memorable cricket then he probably isn't worth writing about! Putting his junior achievements at the bottom of the article with the lead of "As a junior...." helps to identify that what comes earlier in the article is more significant in making this person notable. I don't want to outright delete articles of important cricket personalities from Wikipedia but I do want them written in a style so that someone who doesn't know who they are already, can read the article, and readily identify their most significant cricket achievement. Garrie 22:52, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Josephine Batson

The article Josephine Batson has been speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This was done because the article seemed to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it did not indicate how or why the subject is notable, that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert notability may be deleted at any time. If you can indicate why the subject is really notable, you are free to re-create the article, making sure to cite any verifiable sources.

Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and for specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. NawlinWiki 14:46, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Peter Gillespie stub class?

Hi, I noticed you recently rated Peter Gillespie as stub-class on the quality scale. I'd have thought that a long well-referenced article (especially one that isn't even a stub) would be higher than stub-class on the quality scale, so I was just wondering what your reasons were for rating it as stub-class? Andrew nixon 16:36, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] You're doing a grand job

You're doing a grand job in adding the Wikiproject Cricket template to Talk pages. BTW, there's no need to change "WP Cricket" to "Wikiproject Cricket", though it does no harm. I believe that either name will access a template with the same contects. Also the "|" is used as a separator between the class and importance parameters, and if the importance parameter is the last one it doesn't need a "|" after it, though again this does no harm. JH (talk page) 19:35, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

If you rate an article as "stub", please ensure that the article itself contains the appropriate stub template, as otherwise there's an inconsistency. JH (talk page) 09:19, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Brian Brain

Hello. I see you've assessed this article as Start-class on the quality scale. On the face of it, that seems really rather harsh for what is quite a long article, but would I be right in presuming that the lack of many references is the reason? Loganberry (Talk) 12:20, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the answer, and on reflection I do agree. In the fullness of time I do hope to add more references, but unless someone else does it first, it might be a while. Loganberry (Talk) 23:32, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Alec Skelding

I agree that it's a good thing for an article to have an infobox, but I don't think that quite a substantial article should be marked as a "stub" solely because of lacking one. I would suggest that the Skelding article currently merits a "start" rating, and that if it had an infobox it might be worth a "B". There's some discussion of what constitutes a stub here: Wikipedia:WikiProject Cricket/Destubbing miniproject JH (talk page) 12:12, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

As it's sometthing that could be of general interest, I've now raised it on the project's Talk page. JH (talk page) 16:58, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Bangladesh Cricketers

You do the info boxes, i'll write some prose for each, it'll be fine. If you write the names of any articles you create on my discussion page I'll write them up for you. Nick mallory 02:05, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

I'm happy to lend a hand too. It's great that someone is taking an active interest in what has been a badly neglected part of world cricket as far as Wikipedia is concerned. Well done to you. Johnlp 20:59, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Ashfaq Ali

A tag has been placed on Ashfaq Ali, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the page and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. --Finngall talk 15:40, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

Ditto for all of the other empty articles on Bangladeshi cricket players. Please do not create any more. Thanks. --Finngall talk 15:45, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
I'm not disputing their notability--I may be only a Yank, but I know just enough about cricket to know that any player for the national team of a Test-playing nation automatically satisfies the standards for notability. The articles were tagged because there was no text to go with these (badly-formatted, in some cases) infoboxes, and therefore are currently speedy-able under WP:CSD#A1 and/or WP:CSD#A3. I'm not psychic--I can only assess an article based on what's there, not what's going to be there. If anything, the article should be started with the text first.
I do not in any way wish to denigrate your contributions--this appears to be a neglected area which is worthy of attention. But from one editor to another, I think you would serve your cause better by creating more complete articles at a slower rate, rather than pumping out half-assed articles at high speed. Thanks, and take care. --Finngall talk 16:06, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Please keep writing

It's a pity your articles got deleted, but try not to worry too much about that. As JPD said on the WikiProject Talk page, if you put even one sentence of text in for each player, you'll be okay. Actually that one sentence is more important than an infobox, because infoboxes can easily be added later on. Good luck! Loganberry (Talk) 03:14, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

One thing, though: I do think players' batting style is important, so if I come across an article without it I will probably add it in - along with a bigger infobox, since editing those is easier than editing the sort you use. Very good work so far, though! Loganberry (Talk) 03:19, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

Hi, don't worry, it won't happen again. Just put the sentence in which Loganberry suggests, or even just "Animul Islam is a first class cricketer from Bangladesh' in each one as this 'asserts notability'. Other people will improve them later. Add the names of any cricketers you do boxes for here and they'll get done. Nick mallory 04:17, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

Yes, please continue with this project. I apologize if my language was too strong. Thanks, and take care. --Finngall talk 15:24, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Infobox Old Cricketer

Please be careful when editing. You recently changed the above infobox to the stats for a Bangladeshi player, thus making every player with the infox have that players stats! Andrew nixon 11:11, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Golam Rabbani

A tag has been placed on Golam Rabbani, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. Eddie 21:48, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

I've removed the speedy tag, as per all of the previous discussions. I'll leave him a message about it. Thanks. --Finngall talk 21:55, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
Hello. This is a reply to your comments on my talk page. One sentence does not qualify as a stub. It is very short and, according to Wikipedia:Stubs and the criteria for speedy deletion, it should be deleted. If there is no information available about him, then he does not merit an article in Wikipedia. Thank you. Yours truly, Eddie 22:25, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

If an article is going to be under construction for several days (or longer), it should not be in the main namespace. Currently, articles like Golam Rabbani do not qualify for inclusion. However, the articles can remain in user subpages or WikiProject subpages if you prefer. If you'd like to do that, move the page using the move tab and then mark the redirect for speedy deletion (WP:CSD#R2). Please let me know how you'd like to proceed. Cheers. --MZMcBride 01:14, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Cricketers

I neither tagged the articles for deletion nor deleted any of the articles. However, Wikipedia receives a lot of new articles every day, and a lot of them are inappropriate and need to be deleted. If there is a previously arranged agreement that these articles will be worked on for several days, you must mark them with {{underconstruction}} to let other editors and recent change watchers know. If they aren't marked, you're going to have the same type of problems you've had previously. It's unfair to assume that everyone is involved, or even aware of, the policies and innerworkings of WikiProject Cricket, so a little heads-up would be nice. Cheers. --MZMcBride 13:35, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Mallory

Quite frankly I have no idea what your are friend Mallory is talking about - I too am very impressed by your work. You seem to have totally!!! got the wrong end of the stick. I happened to see about ten articles with under construction on the new pages section when I thought it might be best to do one at a time. As long as they are completed this is fine. I certainly certainly did not intend to discourage you in anyway and didn't even realize i'd edited a barnstar. I am always full of praise for such contributors -all I made was a suggestion. I'm completely on your side. Keep up the good work ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you" Contribs 08:45, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Thankyou

[edit] Bangladeshi cricketer stubs

Hello 02blythed, I have renamed a few of the articles where disambiguations came into play: a number had spaces in the article name eg. "Mohammad Nuruzzaman ( Rajshahi Division cricketer)"; and I removed the word "Division" which I felt was redundant in the title. I've also created a few disambiguation pages and deleted some redundant redirects along the way.

I hope I haven't stepped on any cultural toes with my renames - if so please revert me or let me know and I can fix.

Also, by convention we normally have the infobox at the top of the article with the prose and categories following rather than the other way around. I've rearranged those that I came across that were like that. You may wish to keep this in mind for future new articles.

Thanks for your hard work in creating so many of these articles. —Moondyne 06:39, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Some more questions

Hi again. I posted a query at WT:CRIC#Bangladeshi names which I hope you may be able to contribute to.

I notice that many of your new articles say the player is from Bangledesh, which is actually a redirect to the Bangladesh article, the latter being the normal spelling. Is "Bangledesh" an alternate spelling, or is it just a typo? —Moondyne 04:04, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

Hi, I don't know anything about info boxes to be honest. Someone sent me the ones on my user page, so I assume those ones are standard ones. You might be missing a little bit of code somewhere, I don't know, you'd have to talk to Moondyne about that. He's just trying to help so if you're unclear about anything ask him for guidance. You're doing a great job and this is a collaborative process so help from other people is always good. Nick mallory 12:25, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. I'll fix the spelling errors (nearly finished). I see AllynJ has provided info in the infobox below. —Moondyne 13:29, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Infobox

Here's the code you'll want for Template:Infobox Recent cricketer.

{{Infobox Recent cricketer
| flag = Flag of Bangladesh.svg
| nationality = Bangladeshi
| country = Bangladesh
| country abbrev = Ban
| name = Mohammad Mahmudullah
| picture = Cricket_no_pic.png
| batting style = Right-handed batsman (RHB)
| bowling style = Right-arm [[fast bowling|medium pace]]
| FCs = 6
| FC runs = 257
| FC bat avg = 23.36
| FC 100s/50s = 0/1
| FC top score = 90
| FC balls = 142
| FC wickets = 1
| FC bowl avg = 65.00
| FC 5s = 0
| FC 10s = 0
| FC best bowling = 1/13
| FC catches/stumpings = 4/-
| List As = 8
| List A runs = 59
| List A bat avg = 19.66
| List A 100s/50s = 0/0
| List A top score = 14*
| List A balls = 144
| List A wickets = 3
| List A bowl avg = 36.00
| List A 5s = 0
| List A 10s = n/a
| List A best bowling = 3/27
| List A catches/stumpings = 5/-
| debut date = November 26
| debut year = 2005
| last date = April 4
| last year = 2007
| source = http://www.cricketarchive.com/Archive/Players/94/94509/94509.html CricketArchive
}}

Just copy and paste what you can see (from where the {{ is to where the }} is), the tags I used are simply for making it look tidier. Basically, if you type that then the template will automatically create the wikicode every time someone loads the page, without requiring you to create it for every page. The {{ }} tags indicate that a template is in use and so will just grab the basic information stored at, say, Template:Infobox Recent cricketer every time without fail. Unfortunately I'm not sure how to do infoboxes for cricketers who have only done List A cricket, I'll get back to you on that. I hope this has been a decent explanation, I'm not the best at these things, but I think it summed up most of what you need to know. Any questions and do let me know. Cheers. AllynJ 13:06, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

For just First-class appearances, there's {{Infobox Old Cricketer}}. The basic code is as follows:
{{Infobox Old Cricketer
| flag =
| nationality =
| country =
| country abbrev =
| picture = Cricket_no_pic.png
| name =
| batting style =
| bowling style =
| FCs =
| FC runs =
| FC bat avg =
| FC 100s/50s =
| FC top score =
| FC balls =
| FC wickets =
| FC bowl avg =
| FC 5s =
| FC 10s =
| FC best bowling =
| FC catches/stumpings =
| debut date =
| debut year =
| last date =
| last year =
| source =
}}
There's no template for just List A as it stands; your best bet would be to use the first Infobox I outlined the usage of and just put - for all the First-Class entries. PS once you've done a few if you want me to look over them just send me a message. Cheers. :) AllynJ 13:31, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
Yep, that looks absolutely correct; keep up the good work! =) AllynJ 12:38, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Bangladeshi cricketer articles

I'm not deleting any of your articles. The problem is that for some of them, you're including an extra space -- ( cricketer) instead of (cricketer). I'm just moving those to the correct title and deleting the ( cricketer) redirects. If you look at your "My contributions" list, you'll see that all your articles are still there, just under new titles. NawlinWiki 12:21, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] English Cricketers

What's the plan? Which ones are you going to do? Current players who don't already have an article? Check out the County lists to avoid duplication if you can. It might be worth putting a note on the wiki cricket project page to ask where to start or how to go about it or what boxes to use etc. Some counties (Yorkshire!) are well covered, others are very scant. Well done again on the Bangladesh project, it wouldn't have happened without you. Nick mallory 03:54, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

Indeed, I have lists (correct up to at least 2005 in all cases) of first-class cricketers from Derbyshire, Durham, Essex, Glamorgan, Kent and Lancashire (and all first-class debutants of 2007 and 2006) have been covered. If you want me to leave a semi-regular message asking for help on certain cricketers, particularly those in English county cricket, a list which I shall hopefully visit on various occasions, just give me a heads-up. I shall transplant this message to Nick Mallory in order that he sees it too. Bobo. 20:52, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Some help with the English Cricketers project

Nick mallory 04:14, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

Heh heh, thank you for the heads-up. Indeed, if you wish for me to take some of the stress of article-writing out of your evenings, please feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you wish for me to write an article. I'll be sure to find a source on Cricket Archive or Cricinfo, and if not, I shall get back to you on this page or talk to Nick on his.
As I say, tell me if there is a project or a set of names you wish for me to look at, and I shall get to it as soon as I see the message. Bobo. 20:46, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

Hello Blythed. Check out the discussion at the wikicricket page about the new improved info boxes they're working on. You might like to ask them if this affects the first class players you're doing now and whether to use a variant of the new box or the one you're used to. I don't do boxes so it's up to you. [edit] Notability of Morshed Hossain

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Morshed Hossain, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Morshed Hossain seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Morshed Hossain, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. CSDWarnBot 01:03, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Welcome back

I know from past experience that having a speedy deletion tag stuck on a page as soon as you get back from a break from Wikipedia doesn't put you in a confident frame of mind in terms of continuing to add articles, but I for one have missed seeing you around WP:CRIC. All the best. Bobo. 18:48, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Graeme Smith

It's still an awful long way short of GA. It needs more work particularly on his personal life and his domestic career. His cricketing career only goes into his international games. There are still MOS issues (see WP:MOS) and it needs a thorough copy-edit. For example, there is a sentence in there which starts with a lower case letter. I'd work on beefing up the article to include everything about his career and life, ask someone what else could be added, and then get someone else to go over the work to sharpen up any rough edges. Best of luck. Peanut4 (talk) 12:43, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

It looks like you've put a lot of effort into it today and especially since the aove message was posted. It looks like you managed to fix the reference problem. As Peanut said, a thorough copy-edit may still be needed, otherwise it is looking good. When you go for GA, any other pointers needed will be pointed out for you. All the Best.
