Ortolan, isn't this still a dictionary entry? --Robert Merkel 04:28 Jan 24, 2003 (UTC)
- Not a dictionary entry at all, it's an article about a suffix. Ortolan88
[edit] -oid negative usage
It is important to keep in mind the use of -oid is a negative association to the object of comparison. For example, a Humanoid is not a little human it is a false human, often a robot made in the simulation of a human. An asteroid is not in any sense like a star; it is an object in space which upon investigation is proven NOT to be a star; It is a false star. An Android is a non male that edges toward male characteristics; a false male. Despite the drumbeat repetition of CNN, a factoid is a false fact. Not a little fact, for that we have the reasonably good word "FACTLET". Unless your are specifically describing a lie, don't use "FACTOID".
- The meaning of "-id" should be mentioned too. Funkynusayri (talk) 04:46, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
