Question (Lupin's tool)
Do you know how to change the words on the list? I know if I tried by myself, something bad would happen. Midorihana(talk)(contribs) 07:41, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
- You mean the badwords list? Which words would you like to change? Master of Puppets Care to share? 01:13, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
-
- I wanted to add the word 'fuk' with possible extra k's and I think I saw the word 'cox' pop up several times which I wanted to remove (I'm pretty sure that isn't a swear word or controversy). I was also wondering if the syntax for the addition of words requires the // because a whole group of words don't have the /'s around them. Midorihana(talk)(contribs) 01:21, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
-
-
- Hmm... I'm not that good of a coder myself, and I know that recently the badwords list has been a bit screwy. Try just listing fuk; I don't think you have to include the extra ks, as it will detect any repetition. Master of Puppets Care to share? 01:44, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

-
- I added 'fuk' to it. I took another look at the heading to the badwords page and it seems that the slashes are only needed for phrases. Midorihana(talk)(contribs) 01:48, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

- Funny, Lupin's tool tags 'cox' but it doesn't seem to be in the bad words list (looked with Ctrl-F in IE). Midorihana(talk)(contribs) 05:19, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

Something else weird happened
When I rollbacked a edit, it didn't show up in the history of the page, and instead showed up on Lupin's tool as the vandal who rollbacked the edit. Has that happened to you before? Midorihana(talk)(contribs) 22:18, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
- Sometimes the tool edit-conflicts another editor, but it doesn't really notify you; it just reloads the page. I'm guessing that happened. Master of Puppets Care to share? 22:40, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
-
- Actually I've roll-backed an edit and it would show that I have edit-conflicted. Maybe it's because I'm using IE; most scripts seem to be for Firefox. Midorihana(talk)(contribs) 22:45, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
-
-
- Hmm. For me, in Firefox, sometimes I click the rollback button and, if there's an edit conflict, it just goes back to the page with no notification. I then have to check the history to make sure. However, I'm not sure what happened in your case; I just know that you should upgrade already! :P I kid, I kid. Master of Puppets Care to share? 22:52, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

Criticism of the Catholic Church
It's all well and good to dictate to an editor to use the discussion page, but naive editors who are editing this article don't know the discussion page exists. They just dive in and start editing! The only way to contact them is if they happen to edit a section with my comment in it. A lot of them have IP signons or a pseudonym that really isn't a user name.
Normally they are not aware of WP:FOOT though I've put it all over the place including the discussion page. Up until you reverted me, there were zero reverts in the past n days according to Wikipedia statistics. And no vandalism! Pretty good record for a highly controversial topic!
Moreover, the quality of the article has gone up noticeably in the past week or two. Still pretty awful in many places but improving.
Telling someone how not to communicate with a group of people who disagree with him on the article's content, but whom he has been getting along just fine with, is not useful. Student7 (talk) 01:08, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

Intro Heading Necessary for Formatting
Midorihana, the heading is necessary for the outline of links to specific sections to show in the first visible screen given the various blocks and tags typically at the top of the page. I suppose it is a matter of personal preference so I will leave it as you put it. Lazyquasar (talk) 23:49, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
- Midorihana, thanks for responding at my talk page. I was not clear about the formatting. Inserting the header made the page appear more pleasing to me. I am not good with formatting syntax. I have been away from Wikipedia for a while so I am rusty on style manuals and whether they are rigidly followed or considered merely useful guidelines. Sorry for any snippiness or errors that came through from my messages. I previously had a few rather ridiculous encounters and was not in the best frame of mind when I noticed the change. Thanks for helping improve the wikiversity article! I look forward to our next collaboration. Lazyquasar (talk) 02:50, 22 December 2007 (UTC)

That is a good draft, definitely, but I think we can further expand the paragraphs, one for each position on these ideas. I'll see what I can do now. --Slartibartfast1992 02:06, 21 December 2007 (UTC)

Emailing question
Although I figure Wikipedia is safe, how does Wikipedia prevent from spam? I haven't put up my email for fear of spam. (Wikipedia:Email doesn't really help.) --Midorihana(talk)(contribs) 21:36, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
- If you display it prominently on your userpage then yes, it may be spammed by bots that are unrelated to Wikipedia. If you sign it up in the My Preferences tab, however, Wikipedia will never spam you, and if an editor emails you they will never see your email address. Simply put, when they send you an email it is not registered in any of their email clients; they can't read their outbox and see who they sent to. There are only two ways to figure out someone else's email address; have them email a reply to one of yours, or if they send you an email through an email client. Hope that helps. Master of Puppets Care to share? 22:00, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

- That helps, thanks. But can another editor repeatedly press 'E-mail this user'? --Midorihana(talk)(contribs) 22:02, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

- Actually, I don't know what would happen; I assume there's a method of preventing that, but I'm not sure. I'm positive that you'll know who that editor is, and you can just report them for harassment. Master of Puppets Care to share? 22:21, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

Question about WikiProjects/Taskforce
I was taking a quick look at the articles in the template {{yesbands}}{{Yesband}}, and I thought several articles needed some help in a form of references or something (especially the article Jon Anderson). I think creating a WikiProject for this might be too narrow (topic-wise), but I'd like to ask you first. --Midorihana(talk)(contribs) 08:17, 31 December 2007 (UTC)
- Hmm, {{yesbands}} turns up a redlink for me... you mean {{Yesband}}? Well, a WikiProject may be overdoing it, you're right; however, if all of those lack references, then you can if you'd like to. If it's only a few, I'd suggest tagging the sections with {{refimprove}} templates. If you'd like, I can help too. Cheers, Master of Puppets Care to share? 20:55, 31 December 2007 (UTC)
- Whoops, sorry! You're right, it is {{Yesband}}...Okay. I'll go through the list and mark them. If possible I'll find a resource or two for them. There are several uncreated (is that a word?) articles on the template, would it be okay (in terms of notablity) to create them? (I would think so, seeing as Yes is a notable band, but I'm sure others would disagree with me) --Midorihana(talk)(contribs) 21:51, 31 December 2007 (UTC)
- Well, remember that though Yes may be popular, everything and anything Yes is not necessarily notable (Notability is not inherited, blah blah). If you think that the redlinks (what I call them; also, seem only to be video releases) could use stubs, and you could reference them adequately so that they are notable, then sure, go ahead and create. Master of Puppets Care to share? 22:19, 31 December 2007 (UTC)
- I'll abstain from creating the article(s) (although from Wikipedia:Notability_(music)#Albums_and_songs it seems to say it's okay). It would probably get deleted anyway per what you said. In any case, I'll go ahead and source the other articles. --Midorihana(talk)(contribs) 22:27, 31 December 2007 (UTC)
- Sounds good. I'll keep checking back here, though I may be away for a day or two due to New Years parties and such, so don't worry if I take a while on questions. Cheers, Master of Puppets Care to share? 22:53, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

Chocola article
Hi! I am the director of the Chocola Archaeological Project. All and any valid, legitimate and up-to-date information about this important Preclassic Maya site derives from my project, as this project is the sole investigator, with a long-term permit from the Guatemalan cultural ministry. I reviewed the entry as it had been sourced to FAMSI, and found several errors and poor syntax. Please advise me on how to create a proper bibliographical addition, as what I have included does not seem to adhere to the style of bibliographies on Wikipedia. Also, please let me know what else I need to to make the article adhere to any other conventions. Thanks! Jonathan Kaplan, Ph.D. Director, Chocola Archaeological Project —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jonathan Kaplan1938 (talk • contribs) 09:04, 13 January 2008 (UTC)
- I'm not too familiar with the article topic, but I'll try my best to help.
- You probably should include some references from independent sources, like newspaper articles, to establish notability.
- I think you could probably change some of the titles in the further reading into footnotes. To see how to do that, look at Wikipedia:Inline citation and Wikipedia:Footnotes. Wikipedia:Citation templates is also a good place to look for how to cite things. In your case, you probably would want to take a look at {{cite book}}. The Manual of style states how an article is supposed to look.
- If you have any other questions (or if you need me to clarify something) contact me on my talk page and I'll see what I can do.

AfD nomination of Naruto Uzumaki
An editor has nominated Naruto Uzumaki, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").
Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Naruto Uzumaki and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).
You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 02:29, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

Chocola
Thanks. I had to spend a bit of time attempting to bring the entry into adherence with Wikipedia conventions. I still have not been able to figure out to insert a citation and have it appear once I save everything as a numbered footnote. As for independent (scholarly) references on Chocola, this I can certainly do and will do, as soon as I recover some of my books, currently in storage. I am back in the USA only recently after several years in Guatemala. Please continue to help me with formatting. I appreciate it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jonathan Kaplan1938 (talk • contribs) 05:12, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
