[edit] Renaming

I've moved this article from KOHUEPT to its technically-correct Cyrillic title of КОНЦЕРТ. I'm not entirely confident that this was the right thing to do, though; Wikipedia:Naming conventions (use English) suggests that the correct approach would be to transliterate the Cyrillic back into the Latin alphabet, but I don't know how to do that correctly (just guessing: "Kontsert"?). Also, since the album title itself is not actually in Russian, but rather is a Cyrillic transliteration of an English word (according to the article), transliterating it back into Latin letters seems a bit peculiar. Suggestions from other editors would be appreciated. --Russ Blau (talk) 20:00, 23 September 2005 (UTC)

Yes, According to our policies the titles must be written in Latin alphabet, so I moved it. Yes, Kontsert is the correct transliteration. bogdan 10:20, 9 July 2006 (UTC)

Feel free to state your position on the renaming proposal by beginning a new line in this section with *'''Support''' or *'''Oppose''', then sign your comment with ~~~~. Since polling is not a substitute for discussion, please explain your reasons, taking into account Wikipedia's naming conventions.
  • If that's the correct transliteration then Support, but what about "KOHUEPT" / kohuept ? 03:31, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
  • Support Kohuept, the form used by both Rolling Stone and All Music Guide. WP:ENGLISH says to "use the most commonly used English version of the name of the subject as the title of the article, as you would find it in verifiable reliable sources". Whydontyoucallme dantheman (talk) 19:41, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
  • Oppose move as current name of article is the actual name of the LP/CD by Billy Joel, as shown on the cover. Other versions should redirect to this instead. The article itself states that the proposed target name is a corruption of the album name. B.Wind (talk) 01:20, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
    • Do review WP:UE: "Names not originally in a Latin alphabet, as with Greek, Chinese or Russian, must be transliterated into characters generally intelligible to literate speakers of English". Biruitorul Talk 03:58, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
      • If you wish to create a new title (which, by the way, must be supported by a citation from a reliable source per WP:V and WP:RS, consider that the proposed target is not a correct transliteration at all. In fact, the album title itself is a transliteration of the English word "concert". If you insist upon invoking WP:UE, your purported solution violates it (and other Wikipedia policies and guidelines) as well. B.Wind (talk) 05:01, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
  • Support Kohuept per Dantheman. I saw the admin's remarks at Talk:Снова в СССР‎, but the same admin was happy to move Это не любовь... so I do not see any "precedent". Zuiver jo (talk) 20:10, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
  • The precedent was that, like Концерт, Снова в СССР‎ was always in English and was never recorded in Russian, whereas Это не любовь... was a Russian release. B.Wind (talk) 04:00, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
