Žmuidzinavičius Museum
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Žmuidzinavičius Museum in Kaunas, Lithuania, commonly known as the Devils' Museum (Lithuanian: Velnių muziejus), houses a collection of about three thousand sculptures and carvings of devils from all over the world, most of them of folk provenance. The collection was initiated by a painter Antanas Žmuidzinavičius (1876-1966) and was enriched by a number of gifts presented to the museum by other people. Of particular interest are the Hitler and Stalin devils in a dance of death over a playground littered with human bones. The museum was established in 1966 in Žmuidzinavičius' house, built in 1929; today it is contained in a new extension (1982) to the house.
