Żarów [ˈʐaruf] (German: Saarau) is a town in Świdnica County, Lower Silesian Voivodeship, in south-western Poland. It is the seat of the administrative district (gmina) called Gmina Żarów. Prior to 1945 it was in Germany. (For more information about the history of the region, see Silesia.)
The town lies approximately 11 kilometres (7 mi) north-east of Świdnica, and 45 kilometres (28 mi) south-west of the regional capital Wrocław.
As at 2006, the town has a population of 6,902.
