Ştefan Bănică, Jr.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ştefan Bănică, Jr. (born October 18, 1967 in Bucharest, Romania) is a Romani entertainer (actor/singer, the son of actor Ştefan Bănică. His claim to fame is a string of teen flicks ("Liceenii",[1] "Liceenii Rock'n'Roll"[2]). He also acted in a TV series airing in 2005 on ProTV, named "Băieţi buni"[3] ("Goodfellas") in which he plays the villain mobster character, Ciupanezu.

In 2005, Bănică played the role of Billy Flynn in a Romanian version of the Chicago musical (based on the play by Maurine Dallas Watkins) on the stage of the National Theatre in Bucharest.

He released several music albums (marketed as rock'n'roll), and his concerts are often sellouts.

In January 2006 he married television producer and show host Andreea Marin.

[edit] Music

Composer, text writer, arranger of musical works, with the accompaniament of The 50s vocal group and Rock’n’roll band (formed in 1994). Although his style of interpretation, mannerism and appearance is associeted mostly with Elvis Presley's, Ştefan Bănică, Jr.'s "author" songs "borrow" heavily from other artists as well—Shakin' Stevens, Ray Charles, Little Richard, Bonnie Tyler, Buddy Holly, to name but a few. In spite of the obvious and very strong musical influences, Bănică Jr. insistently disassociates himself from the sources he uses for inspiration, and promotes himself aggressively as an original entertainer.
