[edit] History
In basketball, Śląsk Wrocław has been the best and most recognizable Polish club since 1947 when it was founded. The team has won the Polish league championships 17 times so far. Most recognized period of Śląsk's history is the "Great Śląsk Era" when the team won five championship titles in a row (1998-2002). Most of those successes where achieved with Andrej Urlep, the almost legendary coach of Śląsk. Recently, Śląsk is encountering major financial problems which caused lack of decent results in the last 3 years. Before season 06/07 the club has appointed Urlep again which is believed to be the first step towards regaining the top place in polish basketball. The famous players of Śląsk Wrocław were: Mieczysław Łopatka (60's), Edward Jurkiewicz (70's and 80's), Jerzy Binkowski (80's, 90's), Dariusz Zelig (80's, 90's), Adam Wójcik, Maciej Zielinski (retired at the end of season 2005/2006) and Dominik Tomczyk.
