From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Shantarakshita (also called Santaraksita, Santiraksita, Zhi-ba-tsho, and Acarya Bodhisattva[1]) was an Indian sage, abbot of Nalanda University, a great center of Buddhist scholarship. Shantarakshita is believed to have been instrumental in the introduction of Buddhism to Tibet. He was brought to Tibet at the instigation of King Trisong Detsen, some time before 767 CE, and oversaw the translation of a large body of scriptures into Tibetan.
