Ōwani, Aomori

Ōwani (大鰐町 Ōwani-machi?) is a town located in Minamitsugaru District, Aomori Prefecture, Japan.
As of 2003, the town has an estimated population of 12,189 and a density of 74.60 persons per km². The total area is 163.40 km².
Ōwani is a ski resort town, with beginner and expert slopes crafted into Mount Ajara (Venues for the 2003 Asian Winter Games). The town is also popular for its many hot springs (Onsen).
The Neputa or Nebuta Matsuri (lantern festival) is held each year, during the first week in August.
Ōwani is connected by a local commuter train to the nearby college town of Hirosaki.
