The Ōme Line (青梅線 Ōme-sen?) is a railroad in western Tokyo, Japan. It links Oku-Tama Station and Tachikawa Station; some trains continue on the Chūō Main Line to Tokyo Station. The Ōme Line is part of the East Japan Railway Company system.

[edit] Operation

Trains on the Ōme Line are 201 series and E233 series trains. Trains from Tachikawa to Ōme typically operate as a 10-car train (sometimes 4-car and a 6-car trains linked together). At Ōme, a 4-car/6-car train will disconnect with the 4-car train going in the direction of Oku-Tama and the 6-car train heading back to Tachikawa.

The Ōme Line, at times, runs along the Chūō Rapid, Itsukaichi, and Hachikō lines. Supplemental trains during the peak season may also run along the Nambu Line. Trains that operate only on the Ōme Line have a "Ōme-Itsukaichi Line" sticker on the front.

[edit] History

The Ōme Electric Railway (Tachikawa — Mitake) was privately-owned but was later nationalized on April 1, 1944. The Oku-Tama Electric Railway (Mitake — Hikawa [later Oku-Tama]) was under construction when it was purchased three months later. Both were merged to create the present-day Ōme Line and opened on the same day.

[edit] Note

  • ▲: Nowadays, there is only one rapid train (Tachikawa-bound) that runs once every weekday morning. Local trains still stop at these stations.
  • ○: Some Holiday Rapids have stopped at these stations as supplementary trains.
  • The Holiday Rapid "Akigawa" splits off from the Ōme Line tracks at Haijima Station and runs on the Itsukaichi Line tracks towards Musashi-Itsukaichi Station. The "Akigawa" stops at all stations between Haijima and Musashi-Itsukaichi.
