Ōigawa Railway Ikawa Line
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Ikawa Line (井川線 Ikawa-sen?) of the Ōigawa Railway is the only rack-and-pinion railway in Japan.
The 25.5 km line originates at Senzu Station in Kawanehon, Shizuoka Prefecture, the end station of the Ōigawa Main Line, and terminates at Ikawa Station in Aoi-ku, Shizuoka, Shizuoka Prefecture.
The line was originally constructed with 762 mm gauge and later converted to 1067 mm Japanese standard gauge. The Abt system section of 1.5 km with maximum gradient of 9% is on the Ikawa Line, re-laid from an adhesion line on 2 October 1990, due to the Nagashima Dam construction.
