Łuków is also the Sorbian name for Luckau in Germany.

Łuków [ˈwukuf] is a city in eastern Poland with 30,727 inhabitants as of January 1, 2005. Situated in the Lublin Voivodeship since 1999, Łuków was previously in Siedlce Voivodeship from 1975-1998. It is the capital of Łuków County.

Łuków was established about 1233 as a fortress town guarding the Polish borded against Jadźwing and Lithuanians - tribes from the East.Between 1250 and 1257 Bolesław V Wstydliwy- a sovereign of Poland, a prince of Kraków and Sandomierz, located The Order of the Temple in Łuków.
