Þór Whitehead

Þór Whitehead (Thor Whitehead) (born August 19, 1943) is an Icelandic historian. He is currently a professor at the University of Iceland.
Þór has written extensively on the history of Iceland during World War II. His best known books are those belonging to the series "Ísland í síðari heimsstyrjöld" ("Iceland in the Second World War"), amongst them Íslandsævintýri Himmlers (Himmler's Icelandic Adventure), Ófriður í aðsigi (Conflict approaching) and Stríð fyrir ströndum (War By The Coast). He has also written about scandalous episodes in Icelandic history, such as the Icelandic government's rejection of Jewish refugees during the war, and the racist policies of banning black soldiers from the American-garrisoned Naval Air Station Keflavik.

Þór received a BA degree from the University of Iceland, an MA from the University of Georgia and his Ph.D from Oxford University.
