[edit] Confusing location

The "probable" location is somewhat confusing. It matches the Selenge valley and Lake Khövsgöl. The Orkhon Valley, purportedly "at the centre" of that area, is really located further to the east. How reliable is a source giving such a self-conflicting description? --Latebird 07:27, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

That's a question for Brill Publishers. I don't know a more reputable publishing house. There is no doubt that Ötüken centred on the Orkhon Valley, where every early Turkic capital was situated. He who ruled the valley could claim imperium over all Turkic peoples. --Ghirla-трёп- 10:53, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
If the Orkhon valley can be confirmed, fine with me (it includes some of the most fertile grounds/pastures of the region, so what you say makes some sense). But it only touches the eastern outskirts of the Khangai mountains, and has no direct connection to the Sayan. Someone with access to the book should verify that it is making a mess there. --Latebird 10:46, 30 June 2007 (UTC)
