From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Österskär is eastern part of Åkersberga, Österåker Municipality in Sweden. It hosts the terminal station of the Stockholm suburban railway Roslagsbanan.
The area is located in a hilly peninsula between Tunaviken and Sättrafjärden northwest of Trälhavet. Thanks to the great height differences many houses have a view of the sea which speed up the up the building process. Many Stockholmers have their boat in one of Österskärs many marinas.

In 1906 Roslagsbanan opened to Österskär for freight traffic. Among others things in Österskär, there was a smaller mine and a farm (Tuna Farm). During the 1900's plans to make Österskär into an exclusive area, and several large villas were built along the coast. Influences came from Djursholm and saltsjöbaden. At the same time a beach was built, Österskärs Havsbad (more popular known as Solbrännan) and Österskärs steam boat jetty was completed in 1912. During the 20 - and 30's more and more holiday homes were built in the area which become a summer place for Stockholmers. The big expansion of residents took off in the 70's and at present more or less the entire peninsula is built on. Österskär has relatively high houseprices compared to the rest of Sweden and is one of northern Stockholm's most exclusive suburbs.
