Întorsura Buzăului (meaning "Buzău River's Turn" in English, Hungarian: Bodzaforduló) is a town in Covasna County, southeastern Transylvania, central Romania.

At the 2002 Romanian census, the town had 8926 inhabitants, of whom 8853 were Romanians, 57 were Hungarians, and 15 Roma.[1]

[edit] Geography & Climate

Is located at 750m altitude, in a depression, surrounded by Întorsurii, Ciucas and Siriu mountains. Due to its location, Intorsura Buzaului, registers every year the lowest temperatures in Romania. In January 2006 the lowest registered temperature was -41°C(-41.8F) for 2 consecutive days.

[edit] Local Festivals

The "Ciobanasul"(English: The Shepherd ) Annual Festival takes place in Intorsura Buzaului in the last Sunday of September and lasts for one day. At the festival, visitors come from the town and the surrounding villages, and even from other counties. In 2006 the Romanian president Traian Basescu attended the festival. During the festival the attendants can consume Romanian traditional foods and drinks and are entertained with Romanian popular music.
