I have reverted the article, since it was deleted and replaced with a redirect page without consensus. Although there is little information in this article, it can be expanded. If you feel that it should be deleted, create an AfD so that it can be discussed properly. Gasheadsteve 12:28, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

This article was never deleted. If it had been, you would have been unable to simply revert the page. Please be specific in your use of language.
The decision whether or not to convert a page to a redirect is an ordinary editorial decision. It explicitly does not need discussion on AFD. That should be decided here.
Having said all that, you have reverted to a version of the page which 1) fails to establish the notability of this person for a biography in a general purpose encyclopedia and 2) has no sources other than a personal webpage and an obituary. You claim that this article can be expanded. I do not see how. Wikipedia is not WikiNews. Obituaries are not encyclopedia articles.
If the page can be expanded, anyone is free to do so. In the meantime, readers are better served by a redirect to 2007 Dakar Rally. Rossami (talk) 15:03, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
I disagree about no assertion of notability. The article says "He became the 2nd fatality on the 2007 Dakar Rally" and WP:BIO says people who have competed "at the highest level in mainly amateur sports or other competitive activities that are themselves considered notable" are notable. As the Dakar Rally is a notable event, and indeed the most notable event of it's type, anyone that competes is notable. Gasheadsteve 16:57, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
I've now reworded the article to make it explicit that he was a competitor in the event. Gasheadsteve 17:31, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

I removed a broken citation, and replaced it with what I believe is a citation to the same article (at least it is the same title). If someone here is French speaking, perhaps they could go to Eric's website and get some more biographical information? There may also be more information on the cause of his death; see my notes on the talk page of the Dakar 2007 page. Benthatsme 20:22, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
