Talk:Ça Ira

[edit] Ca ira, ca ira

The opening theme and apparent leitmotiv quote the tune of the French revolution-era chant

"Ah ça ira, ça ira, ça ira/ Les aristocrates à la lanterne"

("Ah, that'll do, that'll do, that'll do/[CArrying] the aristocrats [around] as lanterns.")

which was chanted when real or alleged aristocrats were guillotined and their heads carried around on pikes.

Some "hope" ;-)

[edit] French version

Not a word here about the French version of the opera?! Although it is not certain which is the original version (having an English composer/lyrics writer and a French lyrics writer). There are a few annoying things on the French version:
first it uses the same soundtrack as the English version and some sound-effects that were used to underline the English text are completely useless (because sometimes both texts are completely different in meaning);
second: the Frenglish of the non-French-speaking singers is perhaps fun for fans of Allo Allo), but this opera wasn't meant as a comedy, me thinks. Felix Atagong 13:31, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

That's interesting to know; but to add the information to the article we'll need citations from reliable sources. Can you suggest any? Andy Mabbett | Talk to Andy Mabbett 15:22, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

I've been browsing the net to find some sources and apparently there aren't any. This makes me wonder, am I the only one on the earth who sat through both versions of Waters's opera comparing them? I'll try to make a report and publish it somewhere. It is then up to you (and the other editors) to decide if I am a reliable source or not. 8-))) Felix Atagong 12:44, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

I'd be interested to hear more of the differences and issues you found - please e-mail me. Andy Mabbett | Talk to Andy Mabbett 13:24, 29 July 2007 (UTC)
