Åmot is a municipality in the county of Hedmark, Norway.

Åmot was established as a municipality January 1, 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt).

The municipality administration center for Åmot in Hedmark is in Rena.

The municipality (originally the parish) is named after the old farm Åmot (Norse Ámót), since the first church was built here. The first element is á 'river', the last element is mót n 'meeting'. (The rivers Glomma and Rena run together here.)

Until 1921 the name was written "Aamot".

The coat-of-arms is from modern times (1988). It shows three timber axes.

Åmot is bordered to the north by Rendalen, to the east by Trysil, to the south by Elverum, to the southwest by Hamar and Ringsaker, and in the west by Stor-Elvdal.

The Renaelva river flows into the Glomma in Åmot.

Åmot have four schools: Åmot Ungdomsskole (Åmot Lower secondary school), Rena Barneskole, Deset Oppvekstsenter and Osen Oppvekstsenter.
