From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Åke Pleijel (1913-1989) was a Swedish mathematician.

He completed his Ph.D. in Mathematics at Stockholm University in 1940 (with Torsten Carleman as supervisor), and later became Professor of Mathematics at Uppsala University.

Åke Pleijel is well-known for the paper Some properties of the eigenfunctions of the Laplace operator on Riemannian manifolds, written with Subbaramiah Minakshisundaram, published in 1949. In that paper the Minakshisundaram-Pleijel zeta function was introduced.
