Äideistä parhain (English title Mother of Mine) is a Finnish film released in 2005. It was directed by Klaus Härö. The film received good reviews from the Finnish press, and was selected to be Finland's nominee for Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film at the 78th Academy Awards. The film is based on a novel by Heikki Hietamies.
Äideistä parhain tells the story of a Finnish boy named Eero Lahti, played by Topi Marjaniemi, as a child and Esko Salminen as an adult. Due to Eero's father being killed in the Winter War, his mother (Marjaana Maijala) falls into a deep depression and decides to send Eero to Sweden as a refugee. Eero is placed with a family in Skåne. The story focuses on Eero's difficulties in adjusting to the language barrier, resentment from his new mother, Signe (Maria Lundqvist), who would have rather had a girl placed with them than a boy, Eero's longing to go back to his biological mother and his fears of abandonment.
