The phrase "Since he was initially a poet, Mutis did not make a living solely from his writing" strikes me as a bit odd. Alvaro Mutis has held many corporate positions and has earn a living for different activities, but to my knowledge, these were not the result of his impossibility to earn a living from his writings. Here is a possible rewording: "Mutis combined his career as a writer of poetry and prose with a diverse set of non-literary occupations. Like his protagonist Maqroll, Mutis traveled widely in his professional roles..." 129.25.34.11 22:16, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
