[edit] Club career
Álvaro Mejía started his football career at Las Rozas (1993-98). He signed for Real Madrid Junior C in 1998. He was promoted to Junior B in 99/00 and A the following one. Mejía joined the third division team in 2001/02. He moved straight into the second team, and then to the first the following season, debuting in a January 21, 2004 home win against Villarreal CF (2-1, 90 minutes played). He also debuted in the Champions League, in a March 3, 2004 1-0 home win against Bayern Munich in the round of 16 (90 minutes). His appearance in the first team's defence was put to use in different positions.
The following season, Mejía appeared in just five games for Real Madrid, all competitions combined, adding 26 league games the following two seasons, with his first and only goal coming in a 2-0 away win at Real Betis, on October 29, 2005, after one minute on the pitch, having subbed Carlos Diogo.
In July 2007, Mejía joined La Liga newcomers Real Murcia and scored in the first league round, in a 2-1 home win against Real Zaragoza.
