Água Retorta

Água Retorta (Portuguese meaning turning water) is a parish in the district of Povoação in the Azores. The population in 2001 is 497, its density is 33.2/km² and the area is 14.97 km². It is located E of Vila Franca do Campo, Ribeira Grande and Furnas. It is also located SE of Ribeira Grande. The main industry is agriculture. It is connected with a road linking Nordeste and Faial da Terra downhill. The mountains are to the west. Água Retorta is in the northeastern part of the parish and the eastern part of the island. It is the smallest, the highest and the easternmost parish in Povoação.
