¿Dónde Está La Luz? (en: "Where Is The Light?") is the fourth studio album by power metal band WarCry, released on February 1, 2005 (see 2005 in music and 2005 in heavy metal music), and distributed through Avispa Music.

¿Dónde Está La Luz? was recorded in the M-20 Studios in Madrid, with a new bassist, Roberto García former Avalanch member, as a replacement for Alvaro Jardón who left after the band's last concert from El Sello De Los Tiempos Tour (tour given by the band from 2002-2003 supporting their second studio album El Sello De Los Tiempos).[1] The album was released in digipak format, as CD-DVD. The DVD contained a music video of the song Contra El Viento, an interview to the band members, some of the recording sessions in the studio, and more. All the lyrics and music for the songs were written by frontman, lead singer, and songwriter Víctor García.

The album was well received by critics and mostly by fans, being considered as "WarCry's heaviest album to date"[2][3] (the previous ones were power metal). Francisco Fonseca of Metal Archives described the record as "catchy", with almost no fast drumming, lots of good riffs, choruses in every song, ballads, and metal fusions.[4] The lyrics of this work deal with agony, fantasy, but most of all, with social issues, such as abuse, crime, and discrimination.

¿Dónde Está La Luz? Tour was the tour supporting the album, from where was released Directo A La Luz, a recording of a concert in Madrid on November 5, 2005. This live album had a great reception by critics and the fans, soon certified gold and reaching number 1 in the Spanish chart of DVD's sales, staying in high positions for many weeks.[5]

[edit] Songs

All the information is given by Víctor García on their website, where he commented:

This work is based on the present social-reflexions. With my personal involvement in all the songs, where I try to clarify everything that is not so obvious, and a subjectivity that could either match or not your point of view.[6]

[edit] Nuevo Mundo

The theme of migration in our country (Spain) it's very in vogue. Every day we read, see or hear about plans for regulating emigrants' documentation. We show suspicion and rejection to them, mainly because it is easier to argue that we loose our jobs because of them, than remembering they often take the jobs that citizens don't want.

But forgetting forms or ideas the main thing is people. None of the migrants who we used to see on the streets come from a country where they live better. Most of them are escaping from war, but they have no right to political asylum; poverty and hunger, or simply trying to take care of a family forced them seek drastic solutions, and why not risky. But what is the risk when you have nothing to lose? On this song I've tried to express what they feel, all the responsibilities they leave behind: women, husbands, parents, children... homes, in fact, everything, to find solutions where there shines a small flame of hope, wherever they may discover a... New World.

[edit] El Anticristo

Under a halo of mythology, this song is defined in a word... rebellion:
Everyone follows their own impulses, despite incurring rejection of a higher being and even the question of whether such impulses are correct or not. Extrapolating these feelings down in history we can find many examples of decisions made under the refusal of some people who exercise power over us and with the uncertainty of wondering whether it was the right decision or not.

There's a million of examples; with parents, your boss at the moment of working in a certain way, with your partner, with your friends, and so on. Our entire life is riddled with such important decisions, and those less important too, the final message is to let your feelings do the work. The most important thing in human beings is the freedom of choosing the way forward at every moment, even though it's not correct, just being able to choose it is an expression of freedom. One can not always follow your own will, it doesn't mean losing freedom, nobody is foolish by saying one thing meaningless a day, the problem is when that quota is exceeded. Who doesn't dream of heaven, won't feel the inclination to look into it. In this life everything we want to perform often starts with a small step.

[edit] El Regreso

El Regreso is also the name of two Argentine films, from 1950 and 2001.
One of the album's most controversial songs. The news about abuse both physical and psychological are on the agenda for television, radio, press, in fact... all media. There are thousands of ways of mistreatment and have existed since long before being given publicity. There are cultural abuse (in many countries women are almost considered an animal), religious (the ability to be a representative of God is only masculine). But there's a big difference when one see something like this: Husband kills wife after years of abuse with the presence of major children.

We always talk about trying to avoid the tragedy but... imagine you grow up in that environment, which will certainly create a rejection frm yo toward your father, since it's quite possible that in addition to the abuse with your mother has been also on you. This is not correct (Politically) but in this case, wouldn't you fight with everything, legal ways, relatives and even force to stop the aggressor? Thanks God I haven't experienced such situation before, but I accept that just by thinking about it, makes my blood boil.

We have technologically advanced, but still dragging the old stigmas of the human being as ignorance, incompetence, indifference... and many more, but these three are enough to ask me the famous phrase cogito ergo sum (I think, therefore I am) . Today is almost proved that many of the existing people are losing the ability to think and act to solve this and other very similar problems.
In order... Errare humanum est

[edit] Perdido

For the song by Juan Tizol, see Perdido (Juan Tizol song).
This song talks about a person who loses his memory, as in a phrase from the song "Saber de dónde vengo y saber a dónde voy" (To know where I come from, and find out where I'm going). The simplest things sometimes involve the greatest problems and that is why is so obvious that questions like that are exactly the ones hanging in our heads.

Our past guides us to the future; to be born in a poor family, to have studied a carrer, to have been lucky enough to marrie a millionaire... Our physical couldn't be understood without parents, friends, girlfriend and so on, as many times over the world our image varies with these references since not always we are an individuality. It's logical to think that our greatest wish, when asking a question it's to find out the answer, it is innate... Why do we continue searching for the origin of life, rather than living it?.

Many of us would like to wake up a morning and find out all the answers to those questions, but no one is really able to predict our future or tell us if what we've done so far will be reflected on it. Like at the beginning of the song we all hope one day be able to answer this question... "¿Quién soy?" (Who am I? ).

[edit] Hacia El Infierno

Think of a cold cell in which there is a prisoner in the darkness; imagine the scene at any time, and imagine that prisoner has been a normal person like any other, but the circumstances have led him to commit a terrible crime... a murder. He had to kill that person who was putting a lot of presion over him to end up the situation he was going through.

If someone tortures you and and you kill him, may have you committed a crime? If someone is abusing of you and you kill him, may have committed a crime? If an ordinary and just person is forced (by those circumstances) to perform an act of this magnitude, Isn't the person who led him to do it, guilty because of that? Our individual is in prison, and with a cold head, he realizes that more than a victory, his murder is a defeat, and that the other individual was able to harm both (him as a person, and his beliefs and ideals of good person) and that also led him to commit the greatest abomination of a human being, to kill.

Many of you now may be thinking of some epic lyrics about war and death that I have also written. They all relate to soldiers, or armed men whose aim is to kill or die, they know the dangers but have a code of honor to follow (and at the time that a civilian died, then the code is dead for me). In the end I wanted transmite the bitterness of this character and advice that the line is very thin and get out of it only leads us into a hell where there is no victories, only defeats.

[edit] El Amor De Una Madre

You all know at this time what a mother's love is about. This story took place in Central Europe, around the year 2003. One mother had applied euthanasia to her young son, who suffered of paraplegia after a car accident. The case was a follow-up on information, due to the fact that the mother and the doctor who treated the patient were found guilty (the doctor was later left free). This is one of the many existing cases of euthanasia, which I won't talk about, because they can be taken in different ways; from piety to convenience.

I used to imagine the scenes when I heard the news and thought about the moment when the child asked his mother to end his life, I imagined the scene as an unfair fact. The mother, life-giving person should now eliminate his son, who also is a part of herself. It is said that nobody will love more than your mother and in this case I think it's clear. Few would be prepared to get rid of a part of themselves and even less of that valuable part. Dying for others it's much easier than killing a loved one, this is abysmally more difficult. That's how far a mother's love can go.

[edit] Contra El Viento

I'm sure you all have seen pictures of children in a hospital with their heads shaved, suffering of various types of cancer, with that sad look but at the same time sweet, which tell us that rather than sick, they are just children. There're many other images that show adverse environments in which a human being tries to survive, many cases in which the calculation of possibilities is adverse, but many of them the human ended up victorious.

This story talks about a terminal patient who notices that his time is about to come, and still grasps desperately to his life. It's common to hear expressions like: "If I have an accident and end up blind, I prefer to die", or "If I loose a leg I prefer to die"... Dying, is like total surrender. There might be a life after death, but one thing it's totally clear, it won't be the same. The human being is a viscous substance that exists in our heads, everything else is replaceable and complementary. The loss of an organ, vision, or hearing is not a loss of identity, also, your family wouldn't leave you just beacause you're blind, or anything else, their support and affection will always be present.

Imagine you the protagonist of this story, think of any way of survival, think that every second is vital, and that life is a disease with constant pain and thousands of barriers to whom you need to face. Escaping is not allowed, but only resistance, struggle ,and fights to solve problems. At the end of our years death will win, but no one can take away the pleasure of having fought every single day of our lives... against the wind.

[edit] En Un Lugar Sin Dios

A paradox: to be a witness and the main character of a burial. Such statements are very common in dreams, lacking the laws of reality, they are beyond rules or principles. Dreams are (sometimes) a more distant, more profound, and more real than life itself.

This song talks abot that... a dream, that state of nervousness and at the same time parsimonious when we see things in our dreams. We can be witnesses and actors in a film, anything can happen, good or bad, different laws, perspectives, and reality; an unleashed place, a place without limits... A place without God.

[edit] Tu Ausencia

We all have fell in love before, and also had some failures in loving, leaving inside of us, the consistent state of total revulsion to love and the establishment of a defensive state of being, which almost always becomes obsolete at the first sign of change of the other sex (or same sex, to not to "disturb" anyone).

I've experienced that too, that's why I know this mood, and that's what I tried to transmit in this song, the internal chaos in our soul after a break up, that mental weakness, that resentment, and that state almost feverish in which our brain works a thousand per hour, making us change from hate to love, from sadness to anger, from oblivion to remembers, from your company to... your absence.

[edit] El Último

One day you wake up and notice that there's nobody on the streets, you don't have to go to school, to work... It's total freedom. Forgetting about your loved ones, imagine walking through the streets of your town without annoying cars, or pedestrians looking to the wrong direction... I think one of the human beings' ideal state is loneliness. I believe that, as a therapy, we should have a few hours for ourselves everyday. According to the mood, those hours are about to increase or decrease. Although, this state of being should not be constant, because it is so prejudicial as to be accompanied every hour of the day.

On this song the alleged state of total peace becomes a living hell, when you notice that it will last forever. On the song, I emphasize about things that we wouldn't ussually notice, such as silence another could be, the appreciation of how big is our planet, and our environment. So, dear fellows, voyagers in this big blue world; even if sometimes we bother each other, or may be forced to negotiate one of our actions, I will be very happy to see the streets full of people, to get into the wetland, cars, noise; since the other available option looks simply... terrifying.
