Set at a moderate tempo and in the key of A minor, "(This Ain't) No Thinkin' Thing" begins with a pedal steel guitar solo, punctuated by piano and fiddle flourishes. Its lyrics are the narrator's attempt to explain that the love felt between him and his partner is not of a cerebral nature, but rather "a chemical, physical, emotional devotion / Passion that we can't hold back".
