[edit] blackwatch
I find i've wikified the content enough. For a short article such as this one it is better that you just do the changes you see fit instead of put up templates for other people to read your mind about what you want changed. Thanks for the input though.

[edit] H.I.M.S. Black Asp
Hey, C60, it's RelentlessRouge. I wrote an article about Black Asp and you put the wikify tag on it. I tried to make it clearer for the general public to understand. Could you lend a helping hand? It would be much appreciated.

[edit] H.I.M.S. Black Asp #2
Hello C60! Thank you for you prompt reply! Alright. Thanks for adding the redirects. I was going to do them, but then I started writing on some other articles. Ok. I'll modify the gravjector and stuff so more people can understand it. Cheers!

[edit] H.I.M.S. Black Asp #2
Greetings once again, C60. I thank you for extensively working with me to make the Black Asp article much better and more easily understood to the general public. Great job and cheers!

[edit] Color components (HSV, RGB)
On the subject of three small components to the right:
Mmm, I know what you mean about HSV color space getting crowded; it has a lot of pictures already - I had trouble finding anywhere to put mine! Obviously, how crowded the page looks depends on one's monitor as well - a 1024x768 monitor will flow the text differently to the 1600x1200 I'm working at!
The edited images you propose are nice when viewed at full size; it's convenient to have all the components visible without scrolling. On the other hand, when viewed as thumbnails, the individual components become very small - it isn't possible to see what they show on the thumbnail. For comparison, see RGB color model - the image is large, but one can examine the components without clicking on the thubnail. Personally I'd tend towards my versions because they're clearer when used as thumbnails, and I don't think many people will click a confusing thumbnail to look at the enlarged image. But I have no data to back that up - maybe they will!
On the subject of use of equations:
Yes, I'm not sure. We're trying to communicate what the components make out, and I'm not sure how best to do that. On HSV I contemplated doing the saturation and value as greyscale - after all, they aren't red so there is no reason to show them as red. OTOH I wanted to keep the maths simple - all other values to 0 or 1, not some to 0, some to 1 and so on. Overall I think displaying the value as greyscale is definately the right way to go about it, and we might as well do the same with the saturation I guess. My one proviso would be: If the generator code isn't too long it would be nice to have it shown, so people can tell what was set to 1, what to 0, etc.
RGB, again, is swings vs roundabouts a bit. I did it as I did because (1) the calculations were simple and (2) if we're describing an additive system (e.g. light-based) I show the actual red, green and blue light, if that makes any sense. Unfortunately this leads to the image being a bit dark, but that can't be helped. Which is the better way of showing the data probably depends on what the reader is aiming to do - I put the images together for my understanding while doing robot vision programming, so I wanted to take as few steps away from the raw data as possible. For other applications people would obviously want different things.
I did another image in this series, over at YCbCr. I'd welcome any input you have on that too!
Thanks, and greetings from sunny england! Mike1024 (t/c) 18:29, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
- Hello again!
- There's nothing wrong with 1024x768, and we should probably try to be OK with it. I can flip the screen on my laptop to get the bizzare resolution 768x1024, and wikipedia still looks good - something I'd hope we could maintain!
- I see what you mean about the Delphi source code. I didn't guess it would be so long! I wouldn't go for the upload-with-incorrect-extension approach, just because it seems like a nasty hack - whether you want to put the ~10 lines of Deplphi code on the image description pages is up to you - it's your code!
- I like your version of YCbCr - I agree it's a lot clearer. As to which is better for the article, I'm not sure. I suppose if there's data there and it can't be seen, it could be argued that the image which shows the data is better.
- Great work on CYMK, by the way - makes the article a lot clearer.

I am awarding you this technology barnstar for your great work in majorly improving a whole bunch of articles related to colour spaces! Konstable 01:39, 29 June 2006 (UTC) |
[edit] Thank you so much!
My dear (3ucky, I am completely speechless - you actually made a new barnstar, just because of me? This is so incredibly special, that I can't really tell you how moved I am. I have reviewed some of your contributions, and I feel you're a great asset to this place, not to mention your obvious kindness and big heart. I am deeply, seriously impressed by you; and usually I am not impressed that easily, trust me. [edit] Emancipator + Accuser
Hi, C60! We meet again! You did fabulous work fixing up the Black Asp article we wrote together a while back, and I've made a new article, whose name is the Accuser, but has a redirect from Emancipator. I also have written the Wrack (Star Wars), Mon Mothma (starship), Admiral Ackbar (starship), and more, if you peek at my userpage. I think it's very important that these Star Wars starship articles are understandable to the general Wikipedia community, and I often assume that all readers know what I'm talking about because I'm so familiar with the subject.
If you have time, leave me a message at user talk:RelentlessRouge.
Thanks!
Cheers!

[edit] Sinusoidal HSV color space
Hello, I really liked your contribution on the discussion page of the HSV color space article. I'm using color coded visualization for optical flow fields (one vector per pixel) and I really like your sinusoidal HSV model because it looks more natural and it doesn't have these discontinuities the linear model has. I looked deeper into it and found that your RGB to sinusoidal HSV formulas seems to be incorrect. The formula
is only true for S == 1. The actual formula is
-
- .
So you have to know the saturation first. Unfortunately, this is the more complicated part. Solving the equations for S leads to a quadratic equation of which only one solution seems to be fitting... and only under certain circumstances. As you have written in the comment on the talk page, some colors are missing in this color space. The sinusoidal HSV color space is practically a double cone inside of the RGB color cube. With
the saturation is given by
-
- .
m needs to be somewhere between 0 and 1. With saturation already computed, you can also compute value and hue.

[edit] Same Colour Illusion
Hey there. I was just wondering if the animation you uploaded[1] qualifies as being under a free license. It's just that allowing something to be "reproduced and distributed freely" allowing it to be "freely reproduced, distributed, transmitted, used, modified, built upon, or otherwise exploited in any way" or even necessarily modified at all. Forgive me if you are the author in question :-) • Leon 03:38, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] YUV article image
Looks like in YUV article the example image (with house) has inverted U and V. Since logically, skyblue color is green and blue mixed, it doesn't appear to be so when just overlaying two example images.

Dear (3ucky,
I would like to creat three YIQ components of a color Image, like the image you have posted on this web:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:YIQ_components.jpg. Could you please tell me how to create this? I try with many values for I and Q components but I can create three images like yours.
Thank you very much and look forward to hearing from you,
Van.

[edit] about the YIC color space
hi, I'm just wondering how you've generated the sample image http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:YIQ_components.jpg, you've added in the YIQ wikipedia page, because I've tried to generate the same, but the sample images for the channels I&Q are very different of yours, (color are satured), strange... this image was generated using the matrix noticed in the wikipedia page (rgb-yiq conversion)? best regards, NJ. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 138.195.86.79 (talk) 16:19, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
