[edit] Cogels-Osylei

Cogels-Osylei (or Cogels-Osy Lei) is particularly renowned for its houses in Art deco and Jugendstil styles. These are interspersed with more massive mansions in classical style. Perhaps even more remarkable are the houses in the parallel Waterloostraat. At the southern end on the eastern side is an ensemble of five adjoining houses in brick of constrasting colours with the overall name De Tijd (Time). The individual houses are named Ochtend (Morning), Dag (Day), Avond (Evening) and Nacht (Night). The crossroads with Generaal Merlenstraat a little further north is surrounded by the four seasons: Lente, Sommer, Herfst and Winter. One of the houses on the west side bears a silhouette of Napoleon in his characteristic headgear, while one opposite has glazed ceramic panels commemorating his last and eponymous battle.
