[edit] Geotech WikiProject

I started a WikiProject on geotech if you are interested. Basar 22:57, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

Sure! Do I just add myself as a member?--Zuejay 00:50, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
Yep. By the way, thanks for finding some of those geotech articles. Basar 01:03, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
Eh...Funny what boredom makes one do. BTW, I like'd the old way of saying "stop"..."bad"..."piles"... on the Geotech wikiproject page, but you're right, we should be a litte more...PC...userfriendly...eh... --Zuejay 01:05, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
Ya, me too. :) Basar 01:24, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Embankment dam article

Well, the reason I started the article to begin with is my frustration with the Dam article, its lack of sourcing and its inaccuracies. I work on many dam articles and see that people don't write accurately about dams because there is no encouragement to understand dams. Many factors are lumped under "Dams". If someone would clean up and source the Dam article and organise it better, it would help the whole state of dams on Wikipedia which is woeful. That's my personal opinion, so I would prefer you not redirect it because it will continue to encourage this lack of interest in dams but of course I cannot stop you. Sincerely, --Mattisse 00:33, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

P.S. It is similar to a Feature Article candidate I am working on now. The word I needed was brigand. Every word remotely related to what is meant by that word redirected to Outlaw, which is not right for 10th century India where merchants are worried about gangs robbing their land caravans, so I had to create an article. I don't know how to get out of this mess of always having to create articles because everything is redirected to some European/American concept of whatever it is. Sorry, I know it's not your fault! And I really appreciate that you asked. Sincerely, Mattisse 00:33, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

Well, I don't know much about dams except what I have learned working on dam articles trying to source them correctly. That is what originally got me about Dam because I quickly learned I could not count on that for anything useful. It would take someone who is willing to fight over all those idiosyncratic or local terms that people have stuck in there with no sourcing whatsoever. But I saw an edit summary today where someone was tiptoeing around how a term was used in the Netherlands versus that article, so it's a politic morass most likely. Dam is a very general term. It should be a very general article, and leave it to subarticles to get into the nuances. Different countries see things differently. Sorry! Sincerely, Mattisse 01:29, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] grrr - thank you for being thoughtful!

Sincerely not wanting to cause you distress. Whatever your job is here, I'm sure it is impossible and frustrating. I appreciate the curtesy and thoughtfulness you have shown me. Regards! --Mattisse 02:55, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Welcome to WikiProject LGBT studies!

Hi, Zuejay, welcome to WikiProject LGBT Studies!

We are a growing community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to identifying, categorizing, and improving articles of interest to the LGBT community. Some points that may be helpful:

  • Our main aim is to help improve LGBT-related articles, so if someone asks for help with an article, please try your hardest to help them if you are able.
  • Most important discussions take place on the project's main discussion page; it is highly recommended that you watchlist it.
  • The project has several ongoing and developing activities, such as article quality assessment, peer review and a project-wide article collaboration, all of which you are welcome to take part in. We also have a unique program to improve our lower quality articles, Jumpaclass, so please consider signing up there.
  • If you have another language besides English, please consider adding yourself to our translation section, to help us improve our foreign LGBT topics.
  • If you're planning to stay, have a square in our quilt! You can put anything you want in it.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask on the talk page, and we will be happy to help you.

And once again - Welcome!

-- SatyrTN (talk | contribs) 15:17, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

Lol, I was wondering what that meant! Glad to officially have you, add something to the Quilt! Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 20:25, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] WP:LGBT Coordinator Election Notice

This is just a quick, automated note to let you know that there is an election being conducted over the next 7 days for the position of "Coordinator" for the LGBT WikiProject. Your participation is requested. -- SatyrTN (talk contribs)

[edit] Greetings

Hi. I'm sure you're aware of this by now, but Dixie Chicks saw a great deal of vandalism just now, and the version you reverted to was unfortunately not the last stable one. It's been fixed now, though, so no worries. Cheers. Xiner (talk, email) 04:16, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

Good idea. I forgot about it. Go for it! Xiner (talk, email) 04:19, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

I've gone ahead and requested it. Thanks for the suggestion. Xiner (talk, email) 04:23, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

Yes, it's admin-only. Adding the template doesn't do anything, so no need to remove either. You can read about it at WP:RFPP. Xiner (talk, email) 04:26, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

Don't worry. Everyone's been there I'm sure. I know I was. Xiner (talk, email) 04:32, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

Oh good, you've returned to the article. I'm quite stressed about it. Xiner (talk, email) 19:55, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

Take a look at the talk page. One person is trying to make Maines's statement (that Bush is from Texas) look inaccurate by adding an unnecessary clarification. Xiner (talk, email) 20:10, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] re: Kate Mulgrew

There is almost no way to substantiate that he is who he claims to be. Since the information appears in cited sources I don't really know where this person would have a leg to stand on. Ronbo76 05:06, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

Here is what I put on the IP's talkpage:
  • If you are Mr. Hagan, there is not much recourse to you as the information is in the public domain as cited by proper sources. You may if you wish consider submitting a report to Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons/Noticeboard if you are so inclined.
In the meanwhile, if he continues to revert, he should be warned. Ronbo76 05:11, 13 February 2007 (UTC)
I am going to invite someone who works with WP:BLP to the conversation. He will set us straight. Ronbo76 05:18, 13 February 2007 (UTC)
Here is that conversation - User talk:CyberAnth#Edits to Kate Mulgrew and how they impact WP:BLP. I have seen CyberAnth before on a couple of bios, and he seems to be a straightshooter. Info for you if you ever want an opinion. Ronbo76 05:25, 13 February 2007 (UTC)
I would not have informed him of our intent. It should be incumbent upon him/this IP to substantiante his claim. Granted, I am relatively assured something will take place, the IP should be doing the work. As an editor, I advanced the page status - not his claim. Ronbo76 05:35, 13 February 2007 (UTC)
You bring up a good point, good faith, but he has done edits as an anon IP and under his username. That raises the question about sockpuppet edits. I am going to look at the contrib records of both right now.
Looks clean. CyberAnth just weighed in. Ronbo76 05:44, 13 February 2007 (UTC)
Yes, probably clean as regards liability. Yet I strongly support removal of the material as a deference to her husband's wishes. Better safe than sorry. CyberAnth 21:38, 17 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] re: WP:BLP

If you ever see an edit war concerning a bio, I would leave a note on the talkpage indicating your intent which should be to delete or change. WP:BLP states that unsourced info of a negative nature should not be allowed to exist in a bio. At the top of the talkpage is that almost same warning in bio header. Underneath the paragraph is the link for the admin board I provided you and the IP. That would be where I would file the issue. Usually by the time you have finished typing, someone from the bio admin will visit the page and make corrections. CyberAnth is one person I have seen make corrections and trust almost implicitly. Hope this helps.

As for a politico edits, sometimes staffmembers also edit here on Wikipedia on behalf of the members. That has become an issue because some edits are somewhat barely noteworthy.

In the case of Mulgrew, she has had a solid career. I have followed her from almost day one she hit the small screen. I understand how an adoption can be personal as it happened in my family and my Sister only found out about it after my Father's death with my Mom being being in a home with Alzheimer's (meaning she had no one to speak with directly about the adoption). The matter can be extremely personal but in this case seems to be publicly advanced by Mulgrew. Once most of the details are in the public record, they are hard to retract - any where. Ronbo76 05:59, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

In addition, when I found out that Mulgrew publicly addressed the issue of Alzheimer's with her Mom, I felt we had a bond. I respect in ways I respect few actors/actresses. She is very dynamic and did a great job as the first recurring female Star Trek Captain. I wish I could have Chakotay. Ronbo76 06:13, 13 February 2007 (UTC)
Also, you saw what I said about CyberAnth. He is dedicated. He does not just weigh in and set sail. He took out a POV statement and created other references. And, I know that if I had been in the wrong, you would have seen a warning on my talkpage. Ronbo76 06:15, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] re: DC

They are trying to turn the discussion by nitpicking what is being said or discussed. It is almost impossible to discuss the matter with them. Ronbo76 17:06, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] LGBT resources

Why don't you add some actual links as well though? :) Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 16:22, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

I'd love to but the only resource I really know (besides news magazines) is Google. One of the reasons I edit is to learn. I would be a more constructive editor if I knew more, for now I'll continue to contribute copyedits and vandal patrols. Oh well, do what'cha can. ZueJay (talk) 01:32, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] talk about marriage

Aishwarya Rai is going to marry a tree.[1] And thousands of other women do the same thing every year. I present this as proof that this concept stretches far beyond hope of definition. Either that or I'm looking for an excuse to tell wild stories. coelacan — 07:39, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Hi there

Hi. I've bumped into you lots of times at this stage, on various articles so I just thought I'd say "hi".

/waves atcha!! :) - Alison 07:00, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

Hey there; glad I've not frustrated you too much in our recent encounters. Thanks for the shout-out! I was actually just about to leave The Wiki for the night in favor of some Zzzs. Probably be typing at'cha tomorrow ;) ZueJay (talk) 07:12, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
Oh, not at all. I think you're doing some excellent work. There was that one recent encounter which involved someone else. I kinda moved on as I didn't want to step on her toes any more than I had. Anyways - just swinging by to say hello. Keep up the good work :) - Alison 20:11, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] DYK

Updated DYK query On 8 March 2007, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Steve Stanton, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page.

coelacan — 21:38, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

That's so cool! Thanks for letting me know it finally happened. ZueJay (talk) 23:19, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
It almost didn't, because I filed it wrong.[2] Luckily, ALoan decided to IAR anyway. coelacan — 00:04, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] templates

Yeah, I could have put the rainbow flag back in, but I have to unfurl my Jolly Roger from time to time. Templates... there is a {{LGBT-footer}} that has been rigged up. It's smaller in the default format, but it takes any combination three optional parameters, up to {{LGBT-footer|culture=yes|history=yes|rights=yes}} which adds the sections you see here. I'm not sure what nav templates page you mean, though? coelacan — 19:55, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

Jolly Roger - hehehe...
The thing I'm refering to is Category:Navigational templates; should all the LGBT project templates be grouped into one subcat there? ZueJay (talk) 20:00, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
That sounds like a good idea. And Category:WikiProject LGBT studies should be a subcat of that (new) subcat. coelacan — 20:13, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
Okay, Category:LGBT-related navigation templates. coelacan — 20:15, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
Damn! You are a fast bastard! That was fun though! I guess we'll just have to plunk around and find the rest (such as template for gay rights in Serbia, I think I saw?). ZueJay (talk) 20:29, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
I think the Serbia thing was just a temporary misplacement while {{gay rights}} wasn't using noinclude, and was dropping the category right into the article. For some reason that one article got updated quickly. However, there is something else: {{Europe in topic|Gay rights in}} which is not an LGBT nav template but acts like one; it prepends "gay rights in", or anything else, to the names of countries and creates a bunch of links. I guess I'll add a note of that to the category page, although it's used extensively already. Other than that, we're probably done until we come across some other unknowns. coelacan — 20:36, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
Hmm.. All right. The individual pages that showed up when I forgot the <noinclude> will drop back off the list when those are updated, correct? ZueJay (talk) 20:42, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
Yes, it may take a few hours though. I had the same problem with {{bi}}. Okay, so I added {{Sexual Identities}} but I'm not sure about {{Sexual orientation}}. Useful to have in there as well? coelacan — 20:58, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
Yeesss...It does fall within our nav templates, but it should also fall under some others as well - psychology, and I think there's a project on sexuality. So...do we add our cat and wish them good luck on their own cats? Well, here's the psch nav label - <noinclude>[[Category:Psychology navigation templates|{{PAGENAME}}]]</noinclude>, but the sexuality proj is not as well organized - it appears they don't really have any distinct templates... ZueJay (talk) 21:10, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
PS - maybe we should ask how many pages we use it on? 21:11, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

How many: Special:Whatlinkshere/Template:Sexual orientation coelacan — 21:24, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

Hehehe - that's a trick question - assume 43 minus maybe five... Okay, well sexual orientation is LGBT bread and butter, so I'd say tag and bag it (if we're nice, we add the psych tag). ZueJay (talk) 22:25, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

I noticed you were from NH; for some reason I always thought Center Harbor was part of the seacoast region - good to know I was wrong on that! I'm from a little college town known as the only one on earth. ZueJay (talk) 00:54, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
I've been through Henniker, but never had a reason to stop :) Ctr Harbor is up in the lakes region - Squam Lake to be exact. So you bearing up under the snow? :) -- SatyrTN (talk | contribs) 06:59, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Gwen Araujo

I don't think Araujo should be called as a "she", after all, even though he "changed his sex", he was a man by nature. -unsigned by 201.250.95.157 at 03:33 on 18 March 2007

[edit] Merge of Sex reassignment Terapy Sub-article and article

It seems no-one wants to disagree with this, and it would allow streamlining of the Transsexualism article. Shall we do it? Cheers! Lauren/ 01:31, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
