Zubin

Zubin (Persian زوبین), also Zhubin and Jubin (ژوبین) is a given name in the Persian language (Farsi).^[1] While it's main spread is in the regions of Greater Iran^[1], it is also used in other Islamic nations such as Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The name Zubin originated from the regions of Iran and possibly Greater Iran.^[1] Currently its spread is mainly within those regions and in particular the Arab-Muslim world.^[1] It is also used sometimes by Zoroastrians in India known as Parsis, who also trace their roots back to the Iran region. The name is sometimes used in Pakistan and Afghanistan as well, as an Islamic given name.

The name refers to a short spear that is used in a throwing fashion. The zubin was used as a weapon in ancient times.^[1]

The National Organization for Civil Registration ^[2] claims the names means a two headed spear with very sharp head. The correct spelling should be zhubin or jubin because arabs don't have zh or ژ in their language they pronance persian zh as z or j.

Variants of the name exist, such as Joubin (ژوبین) and the similar sounding Persian name, Chubin (چوبین), which refers to a different weapon, the mace (the "choob", Persian for "wood").
