ZQuake
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
ZQuake is a mature QuakeWorld engine based on the GPL'd QuakeWorld source code released by id Software in 1999. It is the work of Anton 'Tonik' Gavrilov with occasional input from a few other coders over the years since the source release.
ZQuake was used as the basis for MVDSV and FuhQuake (and thus ezQuake) since it is generally regarded as having the cleanest codebase among the various QuakeWorld engines. ZQuake source code is held in a Subversion repository at SourceForge and is freely available.
Confusingly, another author, Yohann Magnien, recently (2005) released a cardware port of Quake entitled ZQuake for the Tapwave Zodiac/Palm OS platform. It has no relation to the original ZQuake by Gavrilov.
ZQuake compiles on many systems, including Mac OS X. The build process for OS X requires that the user first compile SDL 1.2.x from source and ensure that 'sdl-config' is in the path.
ZQuake still has a very active messageboard to post bugs and discuss ZQuake.
