[edit] Zoë Warren
If Joss Whedon is on the record as saying Zoë's surname is Washburne née Alleyne, and Firefly never explicitly mentions her surname, why on Earth-That-Was has this article been moved to "Zoë Warren"? I know IMDb lists her under this name, but IMDb can be and often is wrong. Is there a single reliable source for this information? If not, it should be moved immediately to a more accurate title. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 03:30, 28 September 2005 (UTC)
- Apparently in early versions of the film Serenity, Zoë's surname was shown as Warren, but by the time the film was released (and in the novelization, Visual Companion, and Role Playing Game), her name was finalized as Zoë Alleyne Washburne. In one of the featurettes on the "Serenity" DVD, she is still identified as Zoë Warren.Shsilver 18:25, 22 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] What's in a name?
OK, two small issues of naming:
- First of all, an anon user at 216.204.87.250 pointed out that the scripts spell her name without the dieresis (that is, Zoe rather than Zoë). I can't confirm the shooting scripts per se, but that's how it's spelled in Serenity: The Visual Companion.
- Second, where in the Visual Companion does it say that Zoe took Wash's name? I'm not doubting whoever put that in, I just can't find it myself.
So, should the article remain where it is, or be moved to Zoe Washburne or Zoe Alleyne? —Josiah Rowe (talk • contribs) 05:38, 7 November 2005 (UTC)
The official websites also spell her name without the dieresis. It should be changed.
- Re: the dieresis, here are a few scans of shooting script pages I dug up from the old Fox site.[1][2][3]--Nalvage 14:30, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

- Thanks, Nalvage. I've moved the page accordingly. —Josiah Rowe (talk • contribs) 16:14, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
- Zoë: KRAD's novelization and the way it's pronounced.
- Zoe: Those left behind, Firefly: the official companion 1, Serenity: the official visual companion, and Serenity: role playing game. -- Jeandré, 2006-11-16t18:34z
- And the original shooting scripts, as pointed out by Nalvage above. —Josiah Rowe (talk • contribs) 02:15, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Birthdate and Place
Where did the birth date and place details come from? Shsilver 20:45, 27 December 2005 (UTC)
- Apparently it's on a screen in a deleted scene from the movie.--Nalvage 14:17, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Mercenary?
Zoe is listed in the "fictional mercenary" category. No mention is made in the series to her being a mercenary. Is this categorization really appropriate? Edlin2 05:58, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
- My guess would be that whoever added that category thought that since the entire crew of Serenity occasionally took jobs fighting for money (e.g. defending the whorehouse in Heart of Gold), they could be considered mercenaries. I agree that the description is a bit tenuous, and would support its removal — but I'll wait for others' opinions. —Josiah Rowe (talk • contribs) 16:16, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
- What you said. --Kizor 18:42, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] name
okay, from what i understand, zoe's name is Zoë Washburne. her madien name was Alleyne, not her middle name... so why is it Zoë Alleyne Washburne? shouldnt it be Zoë Alleyne-Washburne or just Zoë Washburne?
- Well, typically if a female doesn't do the hyphenated thing, her maiden name becomes her middle name.plange 01:59, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Rifle?
The article states that zoe's rifle is the same one used in The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr., but in the briso county article the weapon (used by lord bowler) is a shotgun. Can anyone explain this? Mooseofshadows 20:12, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry, I hadn't noticed this, but it says this in the Firefly Visual Companion, Volume 1. It's at home so I can't look up the page # and what it actually says at the moment. --plange 23:32, 9 November 2006 (UTC)
