- Hi - to place an image on a page you have a number of options. For a full tutorial see WP:PIC. The basic thing with doing images is the you type , replacing the Image name with the name of the image is uploaded to wikipedia, and replacing.xyz with the flie extension of the image. So, give an image like this:
- But of course, this size doesn't really fit with an article, so to make the image a thumbnail, displayed or the right of the page with a caption, you just type: , which would give a nice box like this:
- You can then change the size of the thumbnail on the right if you so wish, but it's normally fitting to leave it - let me know if you need anymore help at all, and feel free to remove the images from this talk page to declutter it once you understand. Oh - could you possibly give me the name of the image you uploaded, as it is on wikipedia, so that I can check that it is licensed correctly - there shouldn't be a problem but by checking and fixing any problems, the image is unlikely to be deleted. [edit] Fair use tagging and other image stuff
Hi - there is a "Fair use" template specifically for Canadian politicians. To use it, you just need to type into the licensing section of the photo page. That small amount of text is then substituted by wikipedia software into a message explaining the fair use of the image, and preventing it from being threatened for deletion. It would probably be good for you to put that fair use tag above the deletion tag which is already on this image - Image:Rod Zimmer.JPG. Once that's done, I'll remove the deletion tag and leave an approriate explanatory notice. I noticed that you uploaded the image twice - also to Image:R Zimmer.JPG - so I'll mark the second page for deletion, as only one will be used. Now, I also noticed that you had a problem placing the image on the article itself. The only problem was that you had put ".jpg" at the end of the file, but wikipedia requires that you use ".JPG", as the name of the image on wikipedia is "Rod Zimmer.JPG", and with the JPG bit capitalised differently, the wiki just gets confused and can't find the image! If this didn't make sense, or you want any other help, please just contact me (it may be easier, and you will probably get a quicker response, if you leave a message on my talk page. To do this, click the link to the left there, and then click the small (+) button near the edit button on my talk page. This creates a new section on my talk page, and comes up with an edit box for you to leave your question/message in. Once you've finished, just save it like a normal page and I get an alert telling me that I have a new message. Then I'll reply to your talk page, here. If you want to continue a conversation you stated in a new section on a talk page, you can just scroll down to it in the normal wikipedia reading view, then click the small edit button on the right of the page, next to the heading for your section. That way you can esaily add to your comments. If you;d prefer to keep the conversation together, it's fine f you just leave your message on this page, as I'll add it to my watchlist - it's up to you.) Thanks Martinp23 21:43, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Image:Rod_Zimmer.JPG
OK - thanks for letting me know. I've removed the deletion tag from Image:Rod_Zimmer.JPG so that image should be fine now. Just a couple more hints:
- When editing a talk page (article talk or user talk), it's good practice to put ~~~~ at the end of your comment. This is automatically converted into a signature for you, linking to your user page.
- To link to an image without displaying it, put a colon at the beginning of the link - eg :Image:Rod_Zimmer.JPG gives Image:Rod_Zimmer.JPG and Image gives Image.
All the best -- Martinp23 15:30, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
- One more thing about the photo; are you really from the Senator's office or someone that works for him? Regardless, I have emailed the office about the photo and I am still awaiting a response. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 01:38, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Image:Rod Zimmer.JPG
Thanks for uploading Image:Rod Zimmer.JPG. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add
Replaceable fair use disputed
, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Abu Badali 15:49, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
