[edit] International response to Hurricane Katrina

"Poor countries such as El Salvador, Argentina, and Sri Lanka offered help to the USA. It is also noteworthy that countries which have bad relation with United States also proposed help: Cuba and Venezuela. US Citizens may not be aware of this due to poor information by mainstream media outlets."

I’ve worked on International response to Hurricane Katrina, precisely because it provides information about the international community that might otherwise get lost. I was the one who included El Salvador, Sri Lanka, Cuba and Venezuela. But when a paragraph like this is included (which is clearly Point of View) the whole article risks deletion. That’s why I removed it. Try to incorporate that information (in accordance with Wikipedia guidelines of course) in a more relevant article, such as Political effects of Hurricane Katrina or Media bias in the United States. Thanks. --Tsaddik Dervish 03:22, 11 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Grammar 101

It might be arguably grammatically correct to say "The White Sox is a major league team" but that is incorrect usage in America. Team nicknames are always treated as a plural subject, even when the nickname is a singular word. For example, "The Minnesota Wild have defeated the Detroit Red Wings." The British take it a step farther. They might say "Chicago have won the World Series", whereas Americans would say "Chicago has won". In America, the city is singular and the nickname is plural. You could only say "is" if the sentence is worded as "'The Chicago White Sox' is the name of a major league baseball team," which sounds about as weird as saying "The White Sox is..." [edit] Request for edit summary

Hi. I am a bot, and I am writing to you with a request. I would like to ask you, if possible, to use edit summaries a bit more often when you contribute. The reason an edit summary is important is because it allows your fellow contributors to understand what you changed; you can think of it as the "Subject:" line in an email. For your information, your current edit summary usage is 21% for major edits and 44% for minor edits. (Based on the last 150 major and 150 minor edits outside the Wikipedia, User, Image, and all Talk namespaces.)

This is just a suggestion, and I hope that I did not appear inpolite. You do not need to reply to this message, but if you would like to give me feedback, you can do so at the feedback page. Thank you, and happy edits, Mathbot 04:21, 15 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Renaming NYC neighborhoods

Well, I've been correcting the corresponding template (Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, etc.) as I rename the main articles; for instance, I fixed the link for Alphabet City in Template:Manhattan. I guess I overlooked Spanish Harlem, sorry! —Larry V (talk) 01:17, 22 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Rusty and Eddie

Can you please try grabbing screens that better resemble the moment of death for Rusty Millio and Eddie Pietro. By this I mean when the bullet is seen ricocheting the window and going into Eddie. Where you can actually see his blood going into the air. You'd have to grab the scene of his execution, the current screens are quite non-explanatory of the scene. They are just sitting in the car. We need to see them actually getting shot. please fix this problem. - Zarbon

i saw your update...excellent. much better than before. if it isn't any trouble for you and if you might have the screen, can you update aunt edie...the pic we need is of eugene's fedex that states her death. - Zarbon

[edit] Big L locations

Why isn't Manhattan suitable for a location in the infobox? I can't find that guideline anywhere. Tim Ivorson 2006-06-20

Thanks for your reply, Zimbabweed. I don't like the long address format either. My prefered solution is to simply leave it at Harlem, because the Harlem article exists and readers can find out more there. I can see that that might be US-centric (in the case of an American article). "New York City" alone might also be preferable to "Harlem, ..., USA". I was hoping that there was some kind of recorded consensus. In the absense of such a censensus, I wouldn't dream of reverting a reasonable edit. Tim Ivorson 2006-06-22

[edit] Nas - Hip Hop Is Dead

On 12 Jul you added a {{copyvio}} to the page Hip Hop Is Dead. However, you did not give a url that you beliveved the article was taken from. Could you please add the url that way we can see if you are correct. If not you should takle the temp off. Thanks --Jaysscholar 19:10, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks --Jaysscholar 19:44, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

Also... the album has leaked. I don't have a source that says it explicitly, but the fact that people have it means that it has leaked. Why is a source necessary in this instance?

[edit] Infobox Town NY Template

I like your NY Town Infobox template and have used it. Thank you for creating it. Would you consider modifying its markup to accommodate using another template that will allow use of this NY map-making image template Template:GBNewYorkState? Jim Dunning 17:26, 30 July 2006 (UTC) Template:Infobox Town NY

Zimbabweed, maybe you can help with this —-- the red dot image for this template is invisible in IE. It displays fine in Firefox, but the Microsoft world refuses to reveal it, so you end up with a NYS map with no red dot. Any ideas? Thanks, Jim Dunning 15:03, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
Great job, Zimbabweed! The red dot works in MSIE. Thank you. I'm interested in knowing what the issue was . . . .

lol - we're leaving messages simultaneously! Thanks for the info -- I'll have to read the article on the incompatibility. [edit] Image Tagging for Image:Brookhaven ny seal.png

Thanks for uploading Image:Brookhaven ny seal.png. However, the copyright tag you've used is deprecated or obsolete, and should not be used. This could be because the tag is inaccurate or misleading, or because it does not adequately specify the copyright status of the image. [edit] Unspecified source for Image:Bigl image2.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Bigl image2.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Yamla 18:15, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Bigl image2.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Bigl image2.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- Yamla 18:15, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] CitiField

I will not change the name back until the groundbreaking ceremony, set for early next week, although it wouldn't surprise me if someone beats me to it. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a news service, and until something is official, it is speculation. Milchama 22:56, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

Groundbreaking was today, and the name of the park was announced as Citi Field (two words) not CitiField. [1] Therefore, the New Mets Ballpark article was incorrectly named over the weekend. The article should have not been renamed until it was official. Milchama 18:12, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Ron Perelman 2002.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Ron Perelman 2002.jpg. The image description page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

[edit] Untagged image

An image you uploaded, Image:Brookhaven ny seal.jpg, was tagged with the {{coatofarms}} copyright tag. This tag was deleted because it does not actually specify the copyright status of the image. The image may need a more accurate copyright tag, or it may need to be deleted. If the image portrays a seal or emblem, it should be tagged as {{seal}}. If you have any questions, ask them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. -- 12:26, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] needsource tag

Your recent contribution(s) to the Wikipedia article Hillary Rodham Clinton are very much appreciated. However, you did not provide references or sources for your information. Keeping Wikipedia accurate and verifiable is very important, and as you might be aware there is currently a drive to improve the quality of Wikipedia by encouraging editors to cite the sources they used when adding content. If sources are left unreferenced, it may count as original research, which is not allowed. Can you provide in the article specific references to any books, articles, websites or other reliable sources that will allow people to verify the content in the article? You can use a citation method listed at inline citations that best suits each article. Thanks! Xiner (talk, email) 16:49, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:Darrent Williams 2.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

Thanks for uploading Image:Nas logo.png. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. [edit] 2007 New York Mets season

Hello. I mean no disrespect, but I have a question about some of the edits you have made to this article. The question is regarding the titles of the headings on the sections of these articles. If you look at the other 29 articles, you will see that the headings are listed as "Regular Season", "Season Standings", and "Player Stats", with the blue letters being capitalized in all of them (see the 2007 Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim season article for example. Is there any reason why, in the 2007 New York Mets season article you had the above blue letters not capitalized? Again, I'm just looking for a little clarification on this. Ksy92003 User·talk·contribs

Alright. I have looked at Wikipedia:Manual of Style (headings) and do agree with you. I reverted those edits on 2007 New York Mets season because the other seasons had the headings capitalized so I thought we should try to keep it balanced, but that was before I read the policy. Later today, I will try to make those changes on the other articles to lower-case the headings. But now, I have another couple questions. Why did you do this to the 2007 New York Mets season, and why didn't you do it to the other ones? Ksy92003 User·talk·contribs
Okay. I have made all the necessary changes for the 14 articles on teams in the American League, and if they haven't been done already, I will work on the National League teams' articles. Ksy92003 User·talk·contribs

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Jada-kiss-of-death.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. When you use a generic fair use tag such as {{fair use}} or {{fair use in|article name}}, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

Thank you. Nilfanion (talk) 13:48, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Villages as Political Subdivisions of Suffolk County

See the Template:Westchester_County,_New_York, Orange County, NY and also most of the County Templates in New Jersey.

Also, the Administrative Divisions of New York page states this:

"Villages often cross other political boundaries. More than 70 villages are located in two or more towns. Seven villages are divided between two counties. The village of Saranac Lake is in three towns and two counties.

A village in New York State is comparable to a town in certain other states, or a boro(ugh) in certain other states. Villages in New York State are classified by the Census Bureau as incorporated places."

Based on the above, I respectfully request that you revert Template:SuffolkCountyNY to include the list of village links - I am trying to make it consistent with other County entries in Wikipedia (Besides, it took about 45 minutes to put together!) Thanks.

All your base are belong to us. :) Anyhow, "this country is in a state of emergency?" While you have an American flag upside-down, the same could refer to Zimbabwe. — Rickyrab | Talk 16:39, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
