Ziad al-Khasawneh

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ziad al-Khasawneh is a Jordanian lawyer who heads a team of twenty-two defense lawyers for former Iraq President Saddam Hussein. He has complained of repeated US efforts to hamper Hussein's defense, particularly in connection to the difficulty of meeting with their client. He has also argued that the trial of Hussein is illegitimate, because under Iraqi law, the President of Iraq is immune to prosecution, and the nation's law should supersede international law. In May of 2005, al-Khasawneh warned of assassination efforts supported by Iran against his client.
